Very good, it tells whether it is in the form of active or passive

voice. That is what we are going to discuss this afternoon. We
will discuss about Active and Passive Voice.
C. Presenting examples. But, before we proceed to the discussion about Active and
Instances of the new lesson Passive Voice, let’s first recall the lesson about verbs and past
participle.

What is a verb? Verb is an action word.

Very good, now let’s take a look at some of these examples and
how they are changed into past and past participle forms of
verb.

Alright, I believe that everyone already knew about the Past and
Past participle of some verbs. Am I right? Yes, Sir.

Now, in these examples, can you identify the verb and change it
into its past and past participle form?

1. Zuriel knocks the door.

2. Jam Andrea gives her dress to the child.
3. Gabrielle Sean swears to join the class.
4. Melanie sees an old woman.
5. Kobewill sleeps during holidays.

Is everything clear now, class? Yes, Sir.

D. Discussing new concepts Now, let’s discuss about active and passive voice. (Literacy)
and practicing new skills No.
1 Voice is the quality of a verb that shows whether the subject is
the doer or receiver of the action.

The Active Voice

The active voice is used to indicate that the subject
of the sentence is the doer of the action.

Let’s start with a simple sentence.

S V DO
The boy kicked the ball.
The boy is the doer of the action and functions as a subject,
kicked is the verb and the ball is the object of the verb.

Let’s have some more examples.

1. Rian Rose watches a documentary film about dogs.
2. Rishayna arranged the books.
3. Johann does the household chores.
What are the subjects of the sentences?

The subjects of the

sentences are Rian Rose,
Rishayna and Johann.
Very good. Remember that the subject is the doer of the action.

How about the verbs used in the sentence?

Very good. Those verbs are transitive verb with direct objects,
thus when the subject of the sentences does the action and the Watches, arranged and
does
verb has a direct object, we say that the verb is in the active
voice.

Remember the pattern of active voice which is S+ V + DO.

Can you give some examples, class?

The students give their

Now, let us proceed to passive voice. examples.

The Passive Voice

In the passive voice, the subject receives the action expressed in
the verb. The object of the active sentence becomes the subject
of the passive voice. You can recognize passive voice expressions
because the verb phrase will always include a form of be such as
am, is, was, were, are, or been. The presence of a be-verb,
however, does not necessarily mean that the sentence is in
passive voice. Another way to recognize passive voice sentences
is that they may include a “by the…” phrase after the verb; the
agent performing the action, if names, is the object of the
preposition in this phrase.
For example,

The ball was kicked by the boy.

The ball which is the direct object becomes the subject or doer
of the action.

Now, study the following sentences.

1. The documentary film about dogs is watched by Rian Rose.

2. The books were arranged by Rishayna.

3. The household chores are done by Johann.

In each sentence, observe that the subject is the receiver instead

of being the doer of the action. Note that the form of the verb
when the subject is the receiver, not the doer of the action is
made up of was+ past participle of the verb. Thus, if the subject
is acted upon, the verb is in passive voice.

Remember the pattern of passive voice which is S+ V (past

participle) + prepositional phrase.
Here are examples of Active and Passive Voice in the different
tenses.

1. Present Tense
Active: base form or “-s/es” form
Example: The article discusses the effects of unemployment.

Passive: “am/is/are + past participle” Example: The

effects of unemployment are discussed in the article.

2. Present Perfect
Active: S + has/have + -ed/-en Example: He has
completed the work.

Passive: has/have + been + -ed/-en

Example: The work has been completed by him.

3. Past Tense
Active: base + -ed or irregular form Example:
She decorated the walls.

Passive: was/were + -ed/-en

Example: The walls were decorated by her.

4. Past Perfect Active: had +

-ed/-en
Example: They had won the game.
Passive: had been + -ed/-en
Example: The game had been won by them.

5. Future Tense
Active: will + base form
Example: She will write a poem.

Passive: will + be + -ed/-en

Example: A poem will be written by her.
(Numeracy)
Now, if formulas in Mathematics are important such as the law
of integers where (Positive + Positive= Positive) or (Positive x
Negative= Negative). In English, it’s also important to learn the
formula of the Active voice which is S + V + DO and the formula
for passive voice which is S+ V (past participle) + prepositional
phrase + O to understand them better.
Is everything understood, class?

Yes, Sir.
E. Discussing new concepts (Indicators 2, 5 and 6)
and practicing new skills No. With the same groupings, we will have a short game. You need
2 to choose one representative for each group to change or
transform the sentences into active or passive voice.
