Introduction

Amazon.com is an American technological company targeting e-commerce, digital streaming


via AI. One of the largest companies in the world, it has surpassed Google, Apple and Facebook
becoming the largest brand worldwide as well. Even though it began as a marketplace for books
it gradually started catering its customers with software, video games, apparel, furniture, food,
toys and jewellery. The growth of Amazon as a company has been tremendous and it has been
a deal breaker for the company to emerge as a modern times tech giant with its arms spread
across almost every sector and industry .

To organize and oversee all activities in such a huge organization a supply chain manager plays
the major role. He is involved in the identification, production and distribution from the
production level till it reaches the customer . Being successful and thorough at this job position
is extremely necessary because with the position comes huge responsibility .

and administer allocations of all components via multiple producers and suppliers.

● Relevant Post Graduate degree from a recognized tier 1 university


● Relevant Masters in supply chain management courses
● Logistics Management, Transport management, Information systems, and supply
planning are the courses, we look for
● Specialization in any of the above is an add on.
● Knowledge about E Commerce Supply chains, end to end warehouse management from
supply to consumption chains.
● Current Market overview and how bouts of the same

Experience

● Minimum 5 years of experience in supply chain management job in any tier 1 company
● Preferably experience in operations and logistics planning and supply management
● Knowledge on Information based software’s
● Known network of contacts from past work experience.
● Knowledge of different categories of operations amazon handles

Impact of technology on the Job position

The job position of supply chain manager is to physically get the ends of supply and
consumption/demand be met. There could be various aspects in doing the above but there are
certain technological impacts this job position could have in the near future and they are -

● Completely Automated Working system

There could be a time when the role of supply chain manager would be to handle,
operate and give functions to these robots on how bouts of managing inventory.
However human intelligence is far better than AI, hence there would be few people to
motivate, perform and manage. This would want the supply chain personnel to have a
technological aspect of thinking and knowledge about it the similar way.

● Continuously changing customer needs

There could be a condition wherein customers' needs get to a level where procurement
gets very difficult which would require the supply chains to be upgraded and it would
get more complex to such an extent wherein supply chain management would deploy
more number of employees to the same. It would be possible to match the supply and
demand in a more competitive environment which would require even more efficient
supply chains to stand out of the competition in the existing market.

● Newer Software’s in handling information

When customer wants get diverse and hard to procure, a more systematized information
software would be required to be instilled to handle and remember all the products that
are to be kept in warehousing facilities and this would impact or maybe create a
qualification for the job which would be for the handling the above-mentioned job.

However, this aspect has come up recently but in future this aspect would become a
core aspect in supply chain management.

● Creating an atmosphere with greater transparency

A greater need in communication going completely online would make a system where
this data has to be stored and for the visibility of the customers . Now all the customers
want to know where their products are and how fast they would reach them and this has
been possible now, maybe in the future there would be an even more transparent
atmosphere to work, this would impact the way supply chain personnel handle
relationships with customers and even more beyond the above.

In order to get a skilled supply chain manager whose profile matches the job description ;
Amazon needs to have an efficient recruitment process and appropriate sources of recruitment.
The recruitment process would involve :

Identifying the hiring needs


Identifying the open positions and its requirements is the first step in the recruitment
process . It also involves the planning required for recruitment .

Preparing the job description & job specifications


A detailed job description will help one in determining the qualifications the potential
employees must possess to be eligible to meet the role’s requirements. It provides a
checklist of the requirements that the prospective employees could refer to learn what
they’re expected to do. Title, location, qualifications, responsibilities, remuneration and
benefits are the deliverables that must be mentioned in a job description.

In order to ensure that the job position is taken up by the required individual , Amazon
must ensure that the sources of requirement chosen to fill the position are legitimate
and reliable . Internal as well as external sources of recruitment can be considered to
fill the position .

Transferring employees within the organization from one department to
another or from one location to another can help fill the required job position.
The transferred employee , since already belonged to the organization , will
have a high chance of matching the job description and hence this source will
