For a country such as this, Tuguegarao City (in Cagayan) is more than capable of
becoming a global city. The reason for this is because Tuguegarao City is strategically
located within two hours of Manila and Cebu which are some of the most prominent
cities in the world and transport hubs for international travel and commerce. This
means that it can become some sort of central hub for trade between these two
countries while also exporting globally to other countries through Manila or Cebu.
Another advantage of Tuguegarao is its ability to tap into the industry of tourism.
It is impossible to go anywhere in the Philippines without seeing how touristic the
country is. With this idea, it is extremely likely for Tuguegarao to become a tourist hub
not only within the Philippines but also worldwide. The city has already established a
solid reputation for being an eco-tourism hot spot which means that if they market
themselves correctly, it could become one of those places you see on those travel
brochures.
The infrastructures that Tuguegarao lacks are not just those of buildings but also
those of public health, education, and physical and social welfare. The consequences of
these missing infrastructures are dire: high rates of diseases and infant mortality and a
lack of comprehensive education to produce new workers for the city’s economy.
The city is limited by low budget allocations from the national and local
governments, limited land and property to lease or sell, and poor management
systems; therefore, many potential infrastructure investments have been left unfulfilled
over the past decades.
Describe the types of industries that Tuguegarao could attract if the correct
types of investments were made.
Tuguegarao City, Cagayan is on the brink of becoming a global city. With its own
airport, Tuguegarao International Airport, it is able to service various international
flights coming into the Philippines. The airport has become a key point of development
for this city which is one of the poorest in Northern Luzon. With an estimated nine-
million people living within its boundaries, one would imagine that there are many
businesses located here as well as tourists visiting from around the world. However, if
something isn’t done to make this city more attractive to investors and establish
industries that will attract these types of visitors, Tuguegarao will not be taken seriously
by anyone outside of it’s bounds.
