Reaction Paper: Globalization

Globalization gained numerous discussions worldwide making it a harder topic to

explain without proper and enough knowledge as background. It is said to encompass
economic and political integration on world wide scale and as well as in crucial cultural
dimensions of which my intellectual capacity hasn’t explored yet. But in the simplest
definition, that globalization is a process whereby systems are expanded from being
regional or national to a wider range which is an entire world, I will be walking through my
reads and understanding of the said subject.

A trend that’s been underway for centuries from the earliest use of media to present
social media platforms, globalization made its way to popularity for either its bigger help
and purpose or its downsides in the global community. It comes from the root word ‘globe’
that pertains to the entirety of the countries of the world, which made sense for the fact
that globalization has an impact globally. The pros and cons of globalization, as it affects
not just one country or nation but an entire group of countries, is being discussed in
different areas of the world. Having awareness of its effect globally is a useful movement to
have a clearer view on how to address broader issues present for example climate change
or ozone layer depletion. Another simpler definition of globalization is the worldwide
coming together of countries and nations that have a variety of reasons such as global
trading, immigration, international communication, transportation, law and politics, and so
on. I think the most reason for globalization is the economical trades of countries from one
country to another and the political activities that are needed in addressing global political
issues such as the violation of human rights. Media and entertainment, though not
discussed as much as the economical dimension of globalization, is one of its broadest and
fastest-growing concepts. Through social media, with a single click from one user,
entertainment can be made available in an instant across the globe.

It fascinates me that globalization has roles beyond what a single country can do.
For example, it plays a vital role in the security of sovereignty of each country, contributes
greatly to cultural appreciation, mobilizing of economic resources, acts as testing of
communication or any technological advancements, and connection of transportation from
one country to another. Yet those things globalization does are not all about positive effects
but negatives too. Though despite that fact, for me, globalization still is the most sensical
word for today’s state between countries around the world.
