Career Fair on November 4th, two meetings at 11:10-11:20 and 11:30 – 11:40

1. Did you attend the in-person or virtual career fair? What was your overall reaction to the career fair?

I attended the virtual career fair, and I was a bit disappointed with the few number of choices given and
quite a few being similar. Personally, I would have liked to get in touch with a game design company,
which I did not get to do, but my opinion did change a bit after the meetings, finding interest in places I
was not expecting.

2. What employers did you talk to and what did you gain from the interactions?

First I talked to Hailey Dollen from Vector Marketing, and then with John Slaby from Hyland Software
Inc. Starting with Vector Marketing, I learned more about the company, it’s target audience being
housekeepers or whoever buys cookware mainly, with my job being pitch marketing if I were to join.
And for hyland I would suit the development team which updates programs and software that is used by
the corporation.

3. Were there any employers that you’d be interested in working for in the future? What skills and
experiences will you have to have before you can work for them? How will develop those skills and gain
those experiences?

I was pretty interested in working for Vector Marketing because the starting salary is already high, and
you work with the job completely remotely, your training also being remote.

4. Your recommendations (positive or negative) for this type of activity. Would you attend similar events
in the future? Why/why not?

I would attend them only if I saw an opportunity to talk to a place that I would want to work at. I did not
see this opportunity this time and was surprised after meeting with vector marketing, but I think that
was just a one off lucky encounter, and would probably not attend another of these events unless I had
enough information and interest in the jobs beforehand. All in all, I would recommend this event
positively.
5. Suggestions as to how the event could have been planned more effectively, what would make this
event better in the future, and/or how to encourage more students to attend.

I feel like more information about the specifics of the internships would go a long way, for example , I
applied to vector marketing as I needed two places to sign up to for this assignment while not expecting
much, but the benefits which weren’t listed such as the starting pay and remote working were very
appealing. If I would have known this information sooner, I would have had a higher intere st in signing
up for the 1 on 1s.

6. After attending this career fair, what advice would you give yourself so that you could be better
prepared to attend a career fair in the future?

I would spend more time overviewing the places of internship before scheduling for a meeting, maybe
finding more good opportunities, because I scheduled these meetings the day before while just
generally checking up on the places that sounded interesting.
