Career Research Essay

Vet Technicians perform medical tests in a laboratory environment for use in the

treatment and diagnosis of diseases in animals. They also prepare vaccines and

serums for prevention of diseases. Prepare tissue samples, take blood samples, and

execute laboratory tests, such as urinalysis and blood counts. Clean and sterilize

instruments and materials and maintain equipment and machines. As well as possibly

assist a veterinarian during surgery.

The skills necessary for a Vet Technician are providing full attention to what other

people are saying to you. Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-

related documents. Being able to talk clearly to others when giving specific and

important information. Another important skill is being able to identify complex problems

and review related information to evaluate options and implement solutions. Vet

technicians should be able to apply general rules to specific problems to produce

answers that make sense, combine pieces of information to form general rules or

conclusions. Having the ability to give out clear information and ideas so others will

understand. Vet technicians should also be able to arrange the things or actions in a

certain order according to importance.

These are some colleges that I have found: JEM College in Riverside, SJVC in

Ontario, and another would be American Colleges of Healthcare located in Riverside.

To obtain the necessary training one must research their favorite college which offers

vet technician courses and look for what courses must be taken. For example, Foothill

College has a vet technician program that lasts 2 years and will allow me to earn a vet

II, VETERINARY ASSISTING II. The salary for a career in Vet Technician is 46,370

and I will be planning to continue going up to 64,610. Here are the benefits of becoming

a Vet Technician employment opportunities, Excellent starting salaries. Chance for

advancement for instance moving to a better paying position, and has a job variety that

means you can work at many different settings.

Other careers that are similar to a vet Tech are veterinarians, veterinary

Assistants and Laboratory Animal caretaker. The occupational outlooks of this career

field is a vet tech performs a medical test in a laboratory environment for the use in

treatment and diagnosis. In my opinion a vet technician is always going to be in

demand because they are the assistants of a veterinarian and like nurses for example

there will always be the need to help people, same with my future career to help

animals. Additionally, animals need more assistance than people because they cannot

speak for themselves and most people care a lot for their pets whether it's cats, dogs,

horses, etc.

After doing my research about this career I feel that I would be successful in this

career. The reason why is because I like helping people and like moving around a lot

feeling busy and useful. I have heard from an interview, you will be going up and down

and moving around a lot. For example, taking the animal in different rooms. I am good

at listening and giving details and information. I would enjoy helping the doctor by

holding the animals and doing what I am told to do. I will accomplish the work they offer
