Create a 3D view

Creating Walls REVIT ARCHITECTURE
In this exercise, you work on different levels to add walls to the project.

1 In the Project Browser, under Floor Plans, double-click 00 Ground Floor to open that view in the
drawing area.
2 On the Design Bar, click Wall.
3 In the Type Selector, select Basic Wall : Generic - 200mm.

4 Creating New Wall Type


■ Click Element Properties button
■ Click Edit/New button, follow by Duplicate button.
■ Name it as Generic 150mm.
■ Under Construction, for Structure, click Edit.
■ For Structure [1], under column Thickness, change the
thickness from 200 to 150

5 Draw walls on the ground floor
On the Options Bar:
■ Click (Draw).
■ For Height, select 01 First Floor.
■ For Loc Line, verify that Wall Centerline is selected.
■ Verify that Chain is selected.

6 In the drawing area, draw walls on the ground floor:


■ Click in the lower left quadrant to select the wall start point.
■ Move the cursor to the right, enter 12000mm (the default unit is
mm) or 12m, and press ENTER.
NOTE You do not need to specify the unit; Revit Architecture
uses the units specified in the project template.
■ Beginning at the new endpoint, move the cursor up, enter
6000mm, and press ENTER.
■ Move the cursor to the right, enter 4500 mm, and press ENTER.
■ Move the cursor up again, enter 4500mm, and press ENTER.
■ Move the cursor to the left, enter 16500mm, and press ENTER.
■ Move the cursor downward and click on the first start point to complete the chain and connect
the walls..

7 On the Design Bar, click Modify to exit the command.

8 On the Design Bar, click Wall again and continue to draw the upper portion of the ground floor
as shown.

9 In the Project Browser, under Floor Plans, double-click 01 First Floor. REVIT ARCHITECTURE

10 On the Design Bar, click Wall.

11 In the Type Selector, select Basic Wall : Generic - 150mm.

12 On the Options Bar, for Height, select 02 Second Floor, click (Draw).
13 Draw walls on the first floor:
■ In the drawing area, click the upper endpoint of the east wall as the
wall start point.
■ Base on the guide of ground floor, draw the wall accordingly.

14 On the Design Bar, click Modify.

15 In the Project Browser, under Floor Plans, double-click 02 Second Floor.


16 On the Design Bar, click Wall.
17 In the Type Selector, select Basic Wall : Generic - 150mm.
18 On the Options Bar, for Height, select 03 Roof, click (Rectangle).

19 Draw walls on the second floor:


■ In the drawing area, click the upper endpoint of the east wall as the
wall start point.
■ Move the cursor diagonally to the lower left and draw a rectangle
of 4500 x 4500mm.

20 On the Design Bar, click Modify.

21 Create a 3D view:
■ Click View menu New Default 3D View, or on the toolbar click

22 Save the project file.

Adding Roof REVIT ARCHITECTURE

In this exercise, you create a roof using the footprint of the exterior walls. You specify an offset as
you create the roof so that the roof has an overhang.

Pitch Roof
1 Open the 03 Roof.
2 Create offset roof lines:
■ On the Options Bar, select (Roof) and (Footprint), click (Pick
Lines), for Offset, enter 1200 mm, and check Defines slope.
■ In the drawing area, highlight the west wall; when a dashed
line is displayed on the exterior of the wall, click to place the
roof line. Repeat for the north, east and south walls.
■ On the Design Bar, click Finish Roof.

3 Modify the roof slope:


■ Select the roof, and click (Properties).
■ In the Element Properties dialog, under Dimensions, for Slope,
enter 45°, and click OK.
■ On the Design Bar, click Modify.
4 Open the 3D view.

6 Draw a roof line:


■ On the Design Bar, click Roof ➤ Roof by Footprint, and then click Lines.
■ On the Options Bar, verify that Defines slope is unselected.
■ Draw the roof segments as shown in cyan colour along the exterior edge of the wall.

7 Create offset roof lines:


■ On the Options Bar, click (Pick Lines), for Offset, enter 1200 mm, and clear Defines slope.
■ In the drawing area, highlight the west wall; when a dashed line is displayed on the exterior of the
wall, click to place the roof line. Repeat for the north wall.

8 Use the Trim/Extend tool to close the roof sketch:


■ On the Tools toolbar, click (Trim/Extend).
■ Select the west roof line, and then select the north roof line. Repeat for upper right and lower left
corner to trim the roof lines.
■ Press Esc after finish trimming.

9 Modify the roof slope:
■ Select the horizontal roof line attached to the wall, on the
Options Bar, select Defines slope.
■ Double click the pitch and change to -5°.
■ On the Design Bar, click Modify.
■ On the Design Bar, click Finish Roof.

10 Open the 3D view.

11 Create a curve roof using Roof Extrusion.

12 Open South Elevation.

Curve Roof
13 Draw a curve roof:
■ On the Design Bar, click Roof ➤ Roof Extrusion.
■ Click OK to pick a plane and select the south wall at First
Floor.
■ Click OK again.
■ On the Sketch Bar, click Lines. On the Options Bar, click
(Draw) and select Arc.
■ In the drawing area, draw a curve roof profile as shown.
■ On the Sketch Bar, click Finish Sketch.

14 Open the 3D view.
■ The roof is too long

15 Open the Site Plan

16 Adjust the width of curve roof:


■ Double click the outline of the curve roof.
■ Stretch the top and bottom roof lines until the inner
edge of the walls as shown.
■ Click Esc to finish.

17 Open the 3D view.

Flat Roof REVIT ARCHITECTURE

18 Open the First Floor Plan


19 Create the roof lines as shown and click Finish Sketch.
20 Open the 3D view.

21 Attach walls to roof.


■ While pressing CTRL, select the west and east walls
under the curve roof.
■ On the Options Bar, click Attach.
■ For Attach Wall, verify Top is selected.
■ In the drawing area, select the curve roof.
■ Click in the drawing area, or click Modify on the Design
Bar to end the command.

22 Use the View Cube, open the North West 3D view.

23 Attach the walls at ground floor to the roof as shown.

Parapet Wall
24 Open South Elevation

25 Edit wall profile


■ Select the south wall, on the Options Bar, click Edit Profile.
■ Under Sketch Bar, select Lines.
■ On the Options Bar, select Pick Lines and set the offset to
600mm.
■ Select the outer line of the roof and offset the roof line as
shown.
■ Trim the wall profile and delete the unused horizontal wall line.
■ Click Finish Sketch.

26 Open the 3D View.

27 Repeat wall profile editing for the upper wall.

28 Create a 3D view:
■ Click the View tab of the Design Bar, and click Camera.
■ Click in the lower right corner of the drawing area to place the camera.
■ Click to place the camera target point, as shown.

A 3D view is created. The view you create may differ slightly from the illustrations shown
in the exercises because of minor variations in camera placement. Drag the blue circular
controls that display on the crop region of the resulting view so that you can see the building.

29 In the Project Browser, expand 3D Views, right-


click 3D View 1, and click Rename.

30 In the Rename View dialog, enter Perspective 1,


and click OK.

31 On the View Control Bar, click


Shadows Off ➤ Shadows On.

32 Save the project file.
