USE OF
SOCIAL MEDIA

THINK TWICE OR EVEN MORE

The internet does not grant its users the freedom of speech
like what everyone thinks. Moderators of different platforms
can delete contents and posts that are harmful,
misinformed, and hateful.

This is to make sure that the internet can be a safe place

especially for kids as they can easily access these platforms
on their own. So, the next time you post, be mindful of its
content. Spread love, not hate.

HACKERS EXISTS! GET CYBER SECURED

Do not give your passwords away to anyone!

Do not reveal sensitive personal information, like your

home address and contact number especially to malicious
sites.

More information you post about yourself, the more

vulnerable you are to people who wish you harm.

Cyber threats may include:

• Having you identity stolen
• Your computer and accounts hacked
• Weaponize information (blackmailing)

IMPORTANT: According to chapter IV, section 16 of

the Data Privacy Act of 2012, you, as a user, have
the right to know the purpose of the data
collection and to where your data will be disclosed.

THE MORE YOU KNOW…

Information is literally one-click away. Use social media
as a tool to learn new set of skills or even discover a
new hobby.

It will help you to navigate your way through your social

media feed with a specific purpose instead of aimlessly
getting sucked into the wormhole of the weird side of
the internet.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO KEEP THAT TO

YOURSELF Had a fight with your neighbor or a friend? Is your boss
annoying you? It is therapeutic to vent it all out but don’t
post it on your social media. It is not necessary. Even
uploading that video of you drunk from last night’s party
might cost you your job.

Keep in mind that the internet moves fast and it remembers

everything. What’s uploaded will stay in the internet,
FOREVER. Even if you delete your post, it’s already too late.

Resist uploading pictures while you are out of town!

It is a give away that your house is not occupied and

may invite burglars inside. What’s worse, information
from your pictures can be used by a stalker to track
down your location. Scary, I know.

But use that chance to enjoy your trip and stop worrying
about the likes that you will get.

FACT CHECK BEFORE REPOSTING

What you read and watch in the internet may not be the
real deal.

Make it a habit to question everything you see in your

feed. Practice critical thinking and check reliable sources
to determine if that information you saw is correct. If it is
indeed false, repost it attached with a reliable source
that debunks it for your audience to see.

This will help to lessen the spread of fake news and

misinformation and raise awareness to what is really
happening.

LEARN WHEN TO TAKE A BREAK

There is nothing more responsible than knowing when to
stop doing something before it becomes an addiction.

Social media is made for the purpose of connecting us

and socializing in this digital world. However, it also
disconnects us at the same time.

So, put your smartphone down, rest your eyes, and

engage with friends and family in person. Don’t check
your phone every time a notification chimes in. Relax
and catch up with your life in the real world.
