ACTIVITY 1: WHERE DO I BELONG?

DIRECTIONS: Classify the following hazard given at the bottom of the table as to hydro
meteorological, geological, biological, or technological hazard. Provide what is being asked after
completing the table correctly.
Hydro meteorological Geological Biological Technological
Tropical cyclones Mass movements Animal plagues Factory explosions
Thunderstorm Tsunamis Epidemic diseases Toxic wastes
Flash Floods Volcanic activity Insect infestations Dam failures
Tomadoes Sinkhole Pandemic Chemical spills
Liquefaction Transport accidents

.Based on the table, describe briefly the following hazard terms:

• Natural hazards - There are natural physical phenomena that are caused by
phenomena such as geophysical, hydrological, climatological, meteorological,
meteorological, or biological that occur suddenly or slowly.
• Man-made hazards - There are circumstances that are brought on by humans that
arise in or around human settlements.
• Hydrometeorological - These dangers are related to water in the atmosphere,
especially as precipitation.
• Geological - internal planet systems are included
• Biological - Outbreaks including diseases caused by microorganisms are included.
• Technological - Industrial contaminants, radiation, and hazardous waste are
examples of man-made hazards. That may even be a result of the natural disaster.

CHECK YOUR UNDERSTANDING

Directions: Differentiate natural from technological hazards in not more than 5 sentences. Be
able to give examples to prove your point.

According to them, natural hazards result from a lack of control, whereas

technological hazards result from a loss of control. They conclude that hazards
have three origins: natural failure or misuse of technological processes and
misapplication of technology, medicine, or biology.

POSTTEST
Directions: Answer the essay comprehensively.
• Which hazards could be present in your local community? Which hazards are less likely
to happen and why?
Earthquake-induced ground shaking destabilizes cliffs and steep slopes, resulting in
landslides and rockfalls as a result. Exacerbating causes include heavy rain and
unconsolidated or broken soil. During earthquakes, subsidence, or the lowering of
the ground level, is common. The impact of ground shaking is the first major
earthquake hazard (danger). The earth under them had settled to a level that was
comfortable for them.

• What technological or man-made hazard do you think the worst that could happen in the
society? Explain your point.
Fires are, in my opinion, the worst man-made threat that can occur in society. If not
extinguished quickly, it has the potential to disperse across the area and cause
damage to people.
