ANALYSIS
1. In your own words, define dressmaking.
Dress is a form of cloth, apparel, clothing, outer garment that keeps the body

covered and protected. In ancient times, dress and dressmaking serves a primary

purpose in terms of protection from cold and hot weather. The dress that the ancient

people are making are coming from the skins and fur of animals, they hunt wild

animals in order to produce coats and jackets. In today’s time, dress is not only for

body adornment and covering but also it serves the purpose and trend in fashion and

style.

Furthermore, it modifies tailor-made garments or machine made out from the

several types of textiles, fabrics, cloths that has different colors, forms, and styles.

Dressmaking is a craft and art as it not only involves the finish product such as

blouses, t-shirts, dresses, and gowns. Beyond that piece is an art that is associated

with lines, proportion, color, design, and other aspects that makes a dress a

masterpiece that serves both a usage for living and fashion.

ACTIVITY

o What are the most basic tools and equipment that are commonly used in
dressmaking? List down at least ten (10) tools and equipment.

ANALYSIS
1. Give the importance of knowing the function and usage of tools and
equipment in dressmaking.

Tools and equipment in dressmaking is essential, the absence of one tool or


equipment can affect the craft or dress you are making. It is also important to know
its functions and usage so that there will be easy flow of work and to make the job
done right without causing any damage towards the fabric, cloth, or garment.

In addition, knowing the function of every tool in dressmaking increases


productivity in terms of time and speed, because you already know how to use the
certain equipment that is necessary for the dress you are making. Lastly, it also saves
time and produces the best result of the dress being made and tailored.
APPLICATION
o Draw five (5) tools and equipment that you really consider which are practical
and commonly use in dressmaking. Indicate their function and usage.
