1.2.4 Power supply unit

1.2.4.1 DC connection for external battery.

The DC connection has no visible damage. Z

1.2.4.2 Cooling air fan

Unit is in standby mode. Check condition


and functioning of cooling air fan. The
cooling air fan runs smoothly and does not
make any abnormal sound. ZF

1.2.5 Inlet block O2

The O2 inlet block is fitted with NIST, DIN,


Air Liquide, or DISS connectors. Whenever
these connections are removed (e.g.
during maintenance or repair) it is
necessary to replace the washers M19311.
Tighten the connections using a setting of
the torque wrench of 20 Nm (14.8 lb-ft).
Then perform a leak test using a leak
detecting agent.

Check condition and tightness of the O2


inlet block. To do so, connect the O2
supply in the operating range of 2.7 to 6 bar
(40 psi to 87 psi).

Apply a leak detecting agent, e.g.


Guepoflex 7902275, on the O2 connection
of the O2 inlet block.

No leakage should be visible or audible. ZD

1.2.5.1 Optional ”90° connector (elbow connector)


8413641

Whenever the 90° connector (elbow connector) is


removed (e.g. during maintenance or repair) it is
necessary to replace the washers M19311, see the
following Figure, item 1. If only the 90° connector is
removed from the Savina, only the one washer
needs to be replaced.
Tighten the fixing screws (Allen screws and hose
adapter) each using a setting of the torque wrench
of 20 Nm (14.8 lb-ft). Then perform a leak test using
the leak detecting agent.

Check condition and leak-tightness of the
90° connector (elbow connector). To do so,
connect the O2 supply in the operating
range of 2.7 to 6 bar (40 psi to 87 psi).

Apply a leak detecting agent, e.g.


Guepoflex 7902275, on the 90° connector
(elbow connector).

No leakage should be visible or audible. ZD

1.2.6 Inspiration block

Check condition of the inspiration block. Z

1.2.6.1 Inspiratory socket

Check condition of inspiratory socket. The


inspiratory socket should be undamaged.
The imprinted arrow should point away
from the unit. Z

1.2.7 Nebulizer connection

The nebulizer connection should be


undamaged. The nebulizer connection
should be marked with a nebulizer symbol. Z

1.2.8 Temperature sensor connection

The temperature sensor connection should


be undamaged. The symbols should be
clearly visible. Z

1.2.9 Flow sensor mount (Spirolog) with flow


sensor

Push the flow sensor to the left and


remove. The flow sensor mount should be
undamaged.

The flow sensor should be undamaged.

Plug the flow sensor into its mount. It
should be possible to plug the flow sensor
into its mount without having to use too
much force. Push the flow sensor to the
right as far as it will go. The symbols above
the blue flow sensor sleeve should be
clearly visible. Z F

1.2.9.1 Hose stop (optional) 8414199

The hose stop prevents the ventilation hose from being unintentionally
connected to the connector of the Spirolog sensor.

Check that the hose stop is undamaged. Z

Remove the expiratory valve. The

1.2.12.1 Keypad, control knob, and display

Keypad, control knob, and display are


undamaged (for example, have no
scratches that could affect the view). Z

1.2.13 "Savina Mobil" trolley

1.2.13.1 Castors

The tightening torque for the castor


screws is 25 Nm (18.5 lb-ft).

2 castors can be locked. Check firm


seating of screw connections. ZF

Two Allen screws M5x25 with washers


underneath secure the Savina to the
trolley. Loosen these screws and remove
the Savina from the trolley.

Re-tighten all screws on the trolley.

Place the Savina on the trolley and secure


it to the trolley using the two screws M5x25
including washers. Now it should not be
possible to separate the Savina from the
trolley. F

It is recommended that the blower unit be replaced

3. Electrical safety

The following steps describe the safety


checks according to IEC 60601-1 and VDE
0751. Any decision about performing
safety checks according to VDE 0751 or
IEC 60601 must be made under
consideration of applicable national
regulations. Electrical safety checks
should be carried either according to IEC
60601-1 or VDE 0751.

Savina conforms to regulations of


protection class I, type B; with plugged-in
airway temperature sensor to regulations
of protection class I, type BF.

3.1 Visual inspection of the basic unit

Check the following parts for possible


damage:
- Power cable
- Power switch

Compare the fuse values of the power


pack fuses for mains power supply and
internal rechargeable battery with the rated
values on the rear panel. Z

3.2 Test of electrical safety to IEC 60601-1

3.2.1 Protective earth conductor test

Connect the test probe to the following test


points one after the other:
- Power pack ground stud
- Screws on housing
- Rails, at the sides of Savina (if fitted)
- Oxygen connection

4. Functional tests

4.1 Power supply unit

Connect the unit to the mains power supply


and to the O2 supply 2.7 bar to 6 bar (40 to
87 psi). Turn the Savina on and switch it to
standby mode.

Do not connect any external batteries or


DC supplies to the unit.

4.1.1 Testing the "electrical supply" display

The LEDs on the front of Savina show the


following operating states:
- Mains power supply: green
- External battery: off
- Internal battery: ”green” when internal
rechargeable batteries are fully charged,
or ”yellow” when internal rechargeable
battery are being charged. F

4.1.2 Testing the internal supply voltage

Prerequisite: Savina is in standby mode.

Disconnect the unit from the mains power


supply.

An audible alarm sounds and the message


”!! Int. battery activated” is displayed. F

The LEDs on the front of Savina show the


following operating states:
- Mains power supply: off
- External battery: off
- Internal battery: green or yellow F

4.1.3 Testing the supply voltage failure alarm

Connect device to AC power supply.

Remove the fuse for the internal


rechargeable battery (Note: The fuse is
located on the rear panel of the unit.).

Disconnect the Savina from the mains


power supply.

All LEDs should go off. The audible alarm


sounds. F

Switch off Savina.

The audible alarm should stop.

Connect the unit to mains power supply.

Re-insert the fuse for the internal
rechargeable battery.

Switch the Savina to standby mode.

4.1.4 Testing the external d.c. voltage supply

4.1.4.1 Battery operation simulation

Prepare the test set-up.

Caution: The maximum test time is 1 minute.

Connect the ”Evita charge tester,


complete” to the d.c. voltage input of the
Savina and a voltmeter in parallel (use the
two lower sockets).

Using the ”DC voltage source, 3 to 18 V”,


set a voltage of 14 V, then connect to the
Savina.

After 6 seconds, at the latest, the LEDs on


the front of Savina show the following
operating states:
- Mains power supply: green
- External battery: green
- Internal battery: ”green” when internal
rechargeable batteries are fully charged,
or ”yellow” when internal rechargeable
battery are being charged. F

Reduce the voltage from the DC source


from 14 V to 11 V.

The LEDs on the front of Savina show the
following operating states:
- Mains power supply: green
- External battery: yellow (permanently on
or flashing)
- Internal battery: ”green” when internal
rechargeable batteries are fully charged,
or ”yellow” when internal rechargeable
battery are being charged. F

4.1.4.2 On-board electrical system simulation

Use the same test set-up as in test step


4.1.4.1 and connect the two upper d.c.
voltage input sockets on the Savina using
a shorting link.

Set the voltage from the d.c. source to 14 V


and wait for the "External battery" LED to
light up green.

Reduce the voltage from the DC source to


11 V.

The LEDs on the front of Savina show the


following operating states:
- Mains power supply: green
- External battery: green
- Internal battery: ”green” when internal
rechargeable batteries are fully charged,
or ”yellow” when internal rechargeable
battery are being charged. F

Remove the charge tester. Switch off the


device.

4.2 Tests in internal service mode

4.2.1 Testing the RS232 Interface

Read the Technical Service Bulletin no. 8 (Savina product


monitoring) and send the error list to Lübeck at
logbook.savina@draeger.com.

Since an inspection is carried out in this particular case,


enter ”I” (for inspection) in the ”Repaired successfully (Y/N)”
field of the ”Logbook.Savina.xls” Excel file. No entries
required in the ”Exchanged part no.” field.

4.2.1.1 Reading out the error list (service log)


using hyper-terminal

1. Connect the Savina to the laptop (using


"RS232 extension", 7901808, and "RS232
adapter, crossed", 7901888).

2. Switch on the Savina and, at the same


time, press and hold the backlighting dim-
up/dim-down key and the "Config" key until
the service mode is activated.

3. Press the control knob to activated test


”0”.

4. Switch on the laptop.

5. Start the ”Hyperterminal” program via


Start/Programs/Accessories (Windows
NT) or
Start/Programs/Accessories/Communi
cation (Windows 2000).

6. In the ”New connection” window enter


the following in the ”Name” field:
Savina.Errorlogbook, then confirm with
OK.

7. In the window ”Connect to” set COM1 in


the ”Connect using” field and confirm with
OK.

8. Select the following settings in the


”Properties of COM1” window:

- Bits per second: 19200


- Data bits: 8
- Parity: none
- Stop bits: 1
- Protocol (flow control): hardware

and confirm with OK.

9. Use the control knob on the Savina to


select the ”Send Logbook” field and
confirm by pressing the control knob.

10. The logbook of the Savina appears on


the laptop’s Savina.Errorlog hyperterminal. F

11. Select the entire logbook and copy it to
the clipboard using the ”Edit/select all”
and ”Edit/copy” functions.

12. Open the Excel file


”Logbook.Savina.xls” and place the
cursor on the ”Logbook (Cursor
position)” field.

13. Use the ”Ctrl” and ”V” keys to copy the


logbook from the clipboard to the Excel file.

14. Fill in the following fields:

- Country
- Customer
- Serial No.
- SW-Version
- Operating hours
- Repaired successfully (Y/N) (enter ”I”)
- Exchanged part no. (no entry required)

15. Send the Excel file to the following


address:

logbook.savina@draeger.com

16. Use the control knob to select the


”Delete Logbook” field, then press the
control knob to delete the Savina error
logbook.

4.2.1.2 N/A

The test ”Testing in operating mode using


Dräger VentView” is not applicable during
the entire period of the field operation
”Savina product monitoring” according to
TSB no. 8.

Remove the connection to the PC.

Activate service mode, see 4.2.

4.2.2 Testing the keys

Call up test steps 1 and 2 in sequence (SW


1.10 or later).

Check the functioning of all keys.

All keys should function properly. F

4.2.3 ”Expiratory pressure sensor R1” flush flow

with a value of 10000.

Set ”Pressure bypass” to 100 mbar


(100 cmH2O).

The flush flow rate should be 0.15 L/min to

If the test value is not achieved, perform


the following steps:

- Remove the expiratory valve, and pull out


the blue lip seal 84 13 664 (at the top part
of the expiratory valve). Clean the blue lip
seal with distilled water, dry it, then push it
back into the expiratory valve as far as it
will go.

After one minute, O2 ”Sensor 1” is 97% to

4.3 Leak test, inspiration

Prerequisite: The unit is switched off.

Test set-up:

Slowly increase the flow, until the pressure
is above 100 mbar (102 cmH2O) and the
safety valve opens audibly. Then reduce
the flow to 0.15 L/min. Wait at least one
minute.

The pressure indicated by the pressure


gauge should be at least 40 mbar
(40.8cm H2O). P

4.4 Expiratory valve leak test with sealing to


Spirolog sensor

Prerequisite: The unit is switched off.

Check all expiratory valves available.

Push the flow sensor to the left, and


remove it from the unit.

Remove the expiratory valve.

Remove the flow sensor sleeve, and seal


the outlet of the expiratory valve using a
rubber plug 12 94 105.

Refit the expiratory valve.

Test set-up:

4.7.1 VT flow control and VT measurement

Perform the test ”VT flow control and VT measurement” with all
expiratory valves that are fitted.

Up to software 2.01, the ”Paw high” alarm


limit must be set to 5 mbar above the
”PPEAK” measured value prior to each of the
following VT measurements (200 mL, 900
mL and 500 mL). Then carry out a flow
calibration in each case. To do so, proceed
as follows:

1. Set Vt to 200 mL.

2. Ventilate the test lung for at least three


cycles.

3. Press the ”Values” key and read out the


”PPEAK” value.

4. Press the ”Alarms” key, and set ”Paw


high” to the ”PPEAK” value (read out in step
3) + 5 mbar.

5. Press the ”Values” key.

6. While the test lung is being ventilated,


push the Spirolog sensor to the left-hand
end position and back to the right-hand end
position in order to trigger a flow
calibration.

7. After the display message ”Flow


calibration OK” appears, ventilate the test
lungs for at least another three cycles.

8. Read out the ”VTe” measured value and


compare it with the specified tolerance
range.

9. Press the ”Alarms” key.

10. Set ”Paw high” to 100 mbar (100


cmH2O).

Use this procedure also for Vt = 900 mL


and Vt = 500 mL.

Set VT to 200 mL.
