Question: What do you think is the major influence of the four major literary periods to the 21st century
literature?
After so many years, Philippine literatures was still alive. Our literatures and history are continuously
speaking to us. Philippine literature refers to all literature from the Philippines, written in Spanish, English,
Tagalog and a variety of other Philippine languages. The literature of the Philippines covers a variety of
genres, poetry, prose, dramas that our teacher have discussed. Philippine literature is the key to discover
the truth of our history. The reason why 21st Literature in present time is still alive. Showing the legacy of
our history. This is handed down from generation to generation by our ancestors which is handed to us
with care. 21st Century Literature expand our knowledge about what lies behind our country’s literature and
history. Philippine literature has brought me the realization of valuing the sense of being a true Filipino, in
spite of what have happened in our history that we are once slave of the foreign invaders. The rich cultural
heritage of our ancestors brings us happiness. There is a connection between our ancestors and to our
lives now. Their hardships reflects on what we are right now. Their experiences become an application and
guide to our lives. That is why we are striving to be a productive citizen of our nation. Filipino authors in the
Philippines history such as Dr. Jose Rizal gives pride to the Filipino people. 21st Century Literature gives
fascinating insights on how Filipino’s deal with everything in the past until now. There is a part of our history
that we are being related to Spain and America. This era shows us how Filipino struggled to have an
independent identity. Philippine literature influenced us so much toward the appreciation of the beauty of
life and our history. The truth is Philippine literature lies in our heart.
