WORKSHEET IN SCIENCE 8
SECOND QUARTER / School Year 2021-2022
WEEKS 4-5

I. Direction: Number the following events of typhoon formation from 1-3 as to your own understanding

______All the heat and air flow toward the eye creating the typhoon.
______The thunderstorms convert the moisture into heat. The heat causes more air to flow to the center of the
storm causing evaporation.
______Typhoons start from tropical thunderstorms. The strong winds pull in the moisture from the oceans.
II. TRUE or FALSE Directions: Read each statement below carefully. Write T on the line if you think a statement is
TRUE. Place an F on the line if you think the statement is FALSE.

___1. Typhoons are more violent than hurricanes.

___2. Typhoons come from warm waters in the ocean.
___3. High atmospheric stability could also be one of the factors in the typhoon formation.
___4. When all of the heat and air from the ocean flow toward the eye, it creates typhoon.
___5. Tropical Upper Tropospheric Trough (TUTT) could also be a cause of typhoon formation.
III. Directions: Rearrange the scrambled letter to know the following terms.
1. THONOYP-
2. LETIDUTA
3. LNODETUGI-
4. APR-
5. COTESRONAID-
IV. Give the meaning of the following Acronyms
1. PAR -
2. PAGASA -

PERFORMANCE TASK: Read on the Formation of tropical Cyclone then answer the questions( 50 points)

For a tropical cyclone or typhoon to form, water vapor is needed. Oceans are better sources of water vapor
than landmasses. But not all oceans can provide water vapor. Evaporation is greatest at the oceans near the equator.
Therefore, tropical cyclones require warm water to be able to develop. According to experts, the temperature of
ocean water must be 26.50 C or greater. Given the information, most typhoons are formed in latitudes near the
equator. The tropical cyclone mentioned above weakened and died out near land. This means that when tropical
cyclones reach land, they die out because they are cut off from the warm ocean waters that keep them going. Now
you know where tropical cyclones start to form, why they form there, and in what direction they generally move.

Guide Questions: You can use separate sheet of paper for your answer.
1. How do typhoon develops?

2. How bodies of water affect typhoon?

3. How landmasses affect typhoon?
