1 Operative ways
AREA54 can be operated in one of two basic ways:
When power is applied the Normal (Stand-by) operative way is automatically entered and remains
thus until an operation performed by either the installer or the operator.
When the Control Panel is in Normal (Stand-by) operative way, it monitors all the connected
detectors and manages all events that could occur in the field or directly in the control panel. These
events can be described as: Alarm, system fault, filed fault, maintenance and exclusions.
Generally, in Normal operation, when there are no active events, the display shows the
information below:
* #
FIRE PROTECTION PLANT
12/10/00 11:50
AREA 54/16
Control Unit ID
Date Time
If the control panel has not been programmed, the message “unable to monitor” will appear
on the display.
If the Control Panel has not yet stored any event, the Event counter shows an * (in the top
right corner) that will change into a “#”, as soon as an event has occurred and will remain so until a level
3 password is inserted or the programming is initialised.
When the condition of the control panel changes due to an event, the event itself will be shown on the
display and all the cumulative counters for each type of event will appear on the right hand side of the
display.
If more events occur in addition to the event counter increment, the display will show the first
event at the top and the most recent event at the bottom. The event display has the following priority:
To change the event viewing, press the < and > keys and move the selection asterisk onto
the desired event. To check the event list for the selected event, press the arrow keys ∧ and ∨ in
order to view the event; the most recent event will be shown at the top.
The Alarm display depends on the generating source and the Zone programming type. In
general, there are 4 Alarm indications:
ALARM 0: the detector has activated the Zone/Group and it hasn’t passed to an effective Alarm stage
yet. Only when the time associated with it has elapsed, the Zone/Group will switch to a condition of
Alarm or Group. This indication is displayed with the single knock with time.
ALARM 1: this Alarm condition can be applied to the double knock modes (with/without time) or “ALARM
1 only” requiring to use such indication.
ALARMS 2, 3: these Alarm conditions can be applied to all the operating modes related to the Zones,
except for the “ALARM 1 only” mode, and they can be the result of cumulative Alarm conditions leading
the Alarm to its maximum level (level 3).
Zone Alarm Display generated by detector/manual call point associated with the zone
These displays differ for each type and so they are managed as specific events.

The system fault display allows the immediate recognition of the device and of a part of the
Control Panel which is in a failure condition and can negatively affect the system operation. In any
case, each event is described on the display and it is complete with all the device identification data
(e.g. the address) and the relevant error code.
Faulty panel address
Fault code
Fault type
The field fault display depends on the generating source. A field fault usually affects either a
device connected to the detection line, or the detection line itself. In the first case, a field fault due to a
device is signalled as follows:
Faulty detection line
Faulty detector
address
Reset timer
Zone number
Priority
Detector type
It’s easy to understand how the field fault of a device is due to the inability of the Control
Panel to detect the said device, since it is faulty or has been removed.
In the second case, the field fault is due to the detection line when a particular event has
modified the connection structure of the said line, i.e. the line loop breaking in two branches named A
and B, or a short-circuit of the line. If so, the display will show the following message:
Faulty line number
The display of a device in maintenance allows the immediate recognition of a smoke detector
which has to be replaced or cleaned, since it is no longer reliable. Therefore, the display indicates the
device on the line.

. Detector type
During the Normal (Stand-by) Operative Way, it is possible to know the status of the active exclusions
related to the devices connected to the Control Panel, to the abstract entities (i.e. Zones, Groups), or to
the various devices and the detection lines.

This display is employed only if a “control unit network” exists and when the MASTER panel
supervises and controls the same network.
If a SLAVE panel detects an event, the MASTER panel will notify it showing the event type in
its display. In this case, the MASTER panel, in addition to the event type, will display the SLAVE
panel number and name.
The event types which may be displayed are as follows:
• Alarm
• System fault
• Field fault
• Maintenance

ALLARM 1,2,3: the red indicators at the top left will illuminate depending on the alarm degree (1, 2, 3)
attained by the control panel and the corresponding alarm relays will be triggered. Also, all the actuation
modules (Mas/2000) will be triggered according to the current alarm level. The control panel will beep
and the display will show a clear message from the alarmed device/s.
FAULT: in the event of a failure, the audible signal of the control panel will be heard and the yellow light
of the Fault indicator will illuminate, as well as another yellow coloured repetition for the system faults
(e.g. a battery failure). The display will show a clear message for the occurred failure.
Press the ACKNOWLEDGE key to silence the control panel.
Once the problem has been resolved, press RESET.
TACITAZIONE DELL'ALLARME: by pushing the SILENCE SIREN key, the sound of the active devices
(T/802 plates or 4460/24 sirens) is temporarily silenced. The associated yellow SIREN SILENCED
indicator glows.
Push the REARM SIREN key to make the sound plates or the sirens restart.
The associated yellow SIREN SILENCED indicator turns off.

RESET: press the RESET key to reset the normal operation of the control panel. All the indicators (i.e.
Leds, display) will be disabled and all the attached functions will be reset.
DISPLAY DESCRIPTION: the control panel display is divided into 4 lines. The first two lines indicate the
first occurred event, while the other two lines show the last occurred event. Use the “IP ARROW” and
“DOWN ARROW” keys to move from the first event to the last one,
To the right of the display you will see the following event type counters:
ZA (Zone in alarm): identifies the number of zones in alarm.
GD (Device group in alarm): identifies the number of the device groups in alarm.
GZ (Zone group in alarm): identifies the number of the zone groups in alarm.
GS (System fault): identifies the number of faults relating to the various components of the control panel
(e.g. battery failure).
GC (Field fault): identifies the number of faulty devices on the lines (e.g. a detector or a push button).
MN (Maintenance): identifies the number of devices requiring maintenance.
EX (Exclusion): identifies the number of the current exclusions, with no distinction between lines, zones,
groups or devices.
To change the displayed event type, use the “LEFT and RIGHT ARROW” keys, placing the selection asterisk on
the desired event type.
TEST LAMPS: by pressing this key, all the indicators should be on and the audible signal will beep for a
few seconds.
DESCRIPTION FUNCTION
During the field scanning phase and in case of active event, this key permits you to acquire the
ACKNOWLEDGE ( ) alarm or fault event. In the various programming and service menus, this key serves to confirm the
requests/programming made from/to the control panel.
When the control panel is in the field scanning phase, this key allows you to execute the “Global
RESET
Reset” procedure.
This key allows you to silence the siren and to deactivate the alarm outputs of the actuators after an
SILENCE SIREN
alarm condition has occurred.
This key allows you to reactivate the siren and the alarm outputs of the actuators in the event of an
REARM SIREN
alarm which has been silenced using the Silence Siren key.

This key allows you to cancel the delay time of a zone/group alarm in the time mode. By pressing
SKIP DELAY
this key, the control panel will skip the delay time and will immediately switch to the alarm condition.
In the time mode, this key allows you to increase by one minute the delay time of a zone/group
INCREASE DELAY alarm. The maximum total settable time is 10 minutes corresponding to the sum of the delay set in
the programming phase and the delay added using this key.
When the control panel is in the field scanning phase, this key allows you to trigger the maximum
MASTER ALARM
alarm condition (i.e. alarm 3).
When the control panel is in the scanning phase, this key allows you to activate all the indicators, as
TEST LAMPS
well as the backlighting of the keyboard and the display to verify their proper operation.
This key allows you to immediately force the alarm event view when the display shows some other
EVENTS
event which is different from the alarms.
