1. GENERAL
This item of work deals with construction of Wet mix macadam with approved
materials as per the specifications and shall be dealt in compliance to the clause
406 of specifications. The construction shall confirm to the specific alignment, lines
and grades given in the drawing.
2. PROCEDURE
Preparation of Mix:
Preparation of Base:
7. The sub base (GSB) shall be made free from any kind of foreign matter. Before
laying, it should be noted that Sub base (GSB) surface made slightly wet.
8. The lateral confinement for wet mix shall be provided by placing material in the
adjoining shoulder portion.

9. The wet mix shall be transported from the mixing plant to the site with trippers.
10.The mix shall be spread with motor grader. The motor grader shall be capable
of spreading the material uniformly all over the surface. Its blade shall have
hydraulic control suitable for initial adjustments and maintaining the same so as
to achieve the specified slope and grade.
11.The mix shall be laid manually in places where the grader movement is not
possible.
12.High or low spots shall be rectified by adding or removal of materials as the case
may be.
13.The material shall be uniform and shall be free of pockets of fine material.
14.The compaction of wet mix shall be done as per clause 406.3.5. The rolling shall
be done with 80-100KN vibratory roller. The speed of the Roller shall not exceed
5KmpH. The rolling pattern shall be established in the trial stretch.
15.In portions having unidirectional cross fall/super elevation, rolling shall
commence from the lower edge and progress gradually towards the upper edge.
Thereafter, roller should progress parallel to the centre line of the road,
uniformly over-lapping each preceding track by at least one third width until the
entire surface has been rolled. Alternate trips of the roller shall be terminated
in stops at least I m away from any preceding stop.
16.Care shall be given at every stage so that there will not be any segregation.
17.The finished layer shall be checked for compaction in accordance to the
specifications given below.
18.All relevant QA and QC documents will be maintained for all stages of
construction.

21.The mix shall be laid with sensor paver finisher. The paver shall have suitable
loading hoppers and distribution mechanism.
22.The mix shall be laid manually in places where the paver/grader movement is
not possible.
23.High or low spots shall be rectified by adding or removal of materials as the case
may be.
24.The material shall be uniform and shall be free of pockets of fine material.
25.The compaction of wet mix shall be done as per clause 406.3.5. The rolling shall
be done with 80-100KN vibratory roller. The speed of the Roller shall not exceed
5KmpH. The rolling pattern shall be established in the trial stretch.

27.Care shall be given at every stage so that there will not be any segregation.
28.The finished layer shall be checked for compaction in accordance to the
specifications given below. The top shall be checked for level control and shall
be within +10mm and -10mm of designed level.
29.All relevant QA and QC documents will be maintained for all stages of
construction.

SAFETY MEASURES:
i. It is required that all persons working at the site shall be provided with
the safety equipments, protection means such as safety jackets, hand
gloves, safety helmets and other necessary kinds.
ii. All persons working on the site shall be trained by conducting the training
course for safety to ensure that they are fully aware of the contents.

iv. Proper safety measures like barricading, guard poles painted with
florescent in alternate bands, flags etc. will be provided prior to the
commencement of excavation operations.
v. Signal man will be placed at heavy traffic locations at the time of
Execution.
vi. Reflective sign boards will be placed during night near risky locations.
vii. All workers shall be educated in the use of excavators, bulldozers,
backhoes, graders and rollers such as the excavator arm & bucket
distance and buffer zone in order to prevent from injuries.
viii. Operators would be thoroughly instructed to prevent pushing soil loads
into the main road area if any.
ix. Photographs would be taken to disseminate and maintain traffic safety
records
x. Working area will be cordon with traffic cones to identify survey setting
out to oncoming traffic on both sides.
