Worked as the Senior structural engineer for one of the largest and unique
infrastructure & telecom towers projects through which the following tasks are
performed:
Monitor and review the work of less-experienced engineers and approve design
calculations and details
Syed Ehtesham Ali, Resume, p.
Analysis, Design of telecommunication towers Using STAAD Pro 2 & Guy mast software.
Preparation of Design sketches and calculations of steel structures.
Performing connection designs for secondary and primary sections of steel beams.
Analysis of existing slabs capacity check for proposed rooftop tower.
Design of optimized Steel sections as per AISC (ASD/LRFD).
Analysis & design of telecom towers as per code ANSI EIA/TIA 222-G, ANSI EIA/TIA 222-
H standards.
Checking Approval & Shop Drawings for Fabrication.
Consulting with clients for project approvals.
Respond to field RFI’s by coordination with original design and suggest economical solutions
to meet original design needs
Preparation of Design sketches and calculations of steel structures
Review constructability and write RFI’s to the design engineer if changes are needed.
Verify the integrity of existing temporary structures as a result of the increase in construction
duration
Perform form design to support both traditional and self-consolidating concrete
Study the feasibility of using existing structures as foundations to support the reactions of
temporary structures
Designed steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures as well as their deep and
shallow foundations. Developed spreadsheets to automate and facilitate the design
process.
Performed code-driven hand and computer calculations.
Performed QA/QC on some in-house projects.
Proactively responded to field problems and initiated corrective actions.
Performed seismic evaluation (using the ASCE 31) and retrofitting (using the ASCE
41) for concrete and wood structures
Performed shop drawing reviews for steel and concrete structures
Analysis, Design of Industrial Warehouse/Multi-storied /High rise buildings.
Importing the Model in STAAD Pro v8i, ETABS.
Load Calculations for Gravity & Dynamic Analysis (Seismic + Wind) as per
American/Company Standards (IBC/ASCE/MBMA/IS: 875).
Design of optimized Steel sections as per AISC (ASD/LRFD), IS: 800 (LSD/WSM)
Design of connections.
Syed Ehtesham Ali, Resume, p.
3
Designed gravity and lateral systems for a variety of high-rise structures as well as
parking structures including (shallow and deep) foundation design.
Actively responded to field problems.
Performed shop drawings reviews.
Performed nonlinear analysis (using Staad Pro) on a 14- story building at the UCLA:
The 14-story building was designed. The structure’s lateral force resisting system was
ordinary moment frames located on the perimeter of the building. The structure was
reanalyzed against the updated CBC forces, which caused unacceptable forces and
story drifts. Many solutions were suggested to strengthen the structure. The BRB
(buckling-restraint braces) system was the most suitable solution that proved to
enhance the building capacity and ductility.
Performed seismic analysis (using ETABS) on a five-story building.
Designed and supervised the construction for two 7-story residential buildings and a
10- story commercial building as well as multiple low-rise buildings and several
schools.
