Project Title : HEALTH (FOOD SUFFICIENCY PROGRAM)
BACKYARD GARDENING CONTEST (GULAYAN SA PANDEMYA)

Source of Funds : 10% SK FUND

Appropriations : Php 49,080.90

RATIONALE:

Republic Act No. 10742 otherwise known as the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015
provides that every Sangguniang Kabataan of every barangay shall observe good governance by allowing
them to exercise their duties and responsibilities.

As a basic political unit, the Sangguniang Kabataan being a partner of the Barangay, serves as a
primarily planning and implementing unit of government policies, plans, projects, programs and activities
in the community;

Backyard gardening gives an opportunity to get outside and interact with other gardeners. Further,
it take charge of our own need for exercise and provides a healthy and fresh foods.

This activity is very relevant of today’s situation. The global impact of the pandemic is expanding
daily on the poor due to job loss and other shocks to income and diminished livelihood. Ten of thousands
of people are losing their income and falling into the trap of impending poverty, as a direct consequences of
the economic crisis.

This activity also is in response to the ttheme of the Linggo ng Kabataan 2021which is
TRANSFORMING FOODS SYSTEM: YOUTH INNOVATION FOR HUMAN AND PLANETARY
HEALTH. Furthermore, this is our way of support to the program of Honorable Governor Edwin I.
Jubahib which encourage all people of Davao del Norte to participate his program dubbed as DavNor
KAAGAPAY (Kawsa sa Agrikultura ug Panginabuhian sa Barangay Program)

To make this vision be realized, the Sangguniang Kabataan of Sonlon is in great venture to set this
event that would indeed a channel to promote FOOD SUFFICIENCY PROGRAM.

OBJECTIVES:

1. Promotion of sustainable, low-cost, low-impact, chemical free methods of domestic agriculture and
home gardening.
2. Increase family food production.
3. Enhanced food security for rural families
4. Increased availability of local vegetables and fruits, through replanting

EXPECTED PARTICIPANTS:

The participants of the said endeavor are the KK members of Barangay Sonlon (15-30 years)

PRIZES: (The top 50 entries throughout Barangay Sonlon will received 1/2 sack of rice)
 50 personnel X ½ sack of rice - 25 sack of rice
