also has relationships with the government such as the Ministry of Agriculture and Food
Industries (MAFI),also Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA). MAFI is
responsible for monitoring the fisheries sector, especially in the fisheries department. They

12
3.0 FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

3.1 Findings

The main problems faced by the owner of Hasil Laut Jamilah are the problem of
workers and high competition. The problem of employees faced by owners is the problem
of employees who are lazy and like to steal time. This problem has a detrimental effect on
the owner because the owner needs competent staff to manage his shop. In addition, the
owner has also faced the employees who steal money at the store, so it clearly shows that
the store needs employees who are very honest in their jobs to succeed and streamline the
operation of the store. The next problem is the problem of too strong competition. This is
because the location of Hasil Laut Jamilah is in a very strategic area because it is filled
with tourists, namely Lumut. So, there are many traders who take the opportunity to do
business and the cause of strong competition is the goods sold almost the same. For
example, anchovies, fish crackers, and souvenirs. It is therefore quite difficult to attract
customers to buy in that store as customers have many options to choose another store.

3.2 Discussion

3.2.1 Workers

Workers is one of the important things of doing business. The lazy or like
to steal workers is one of the biggest fears that employees might face. Out of all the
types of problematic coworkers, lazy employees are perhaps the worst. They don't
do their job, they cause other employees to be distracted, and they don't work on
office hours. Nonetheless, it appears that every business has at least one lazy on
staff, and it is their obligation as the employer to address the problem.

Provide incentive is one of the solutions for employers who need to deal
with lazy workers. Punishments might be effective but giving incentives can be
more effective. If an employee is given a goal to achieve in exchange for anything,
they are more likely to work 10 times harder to achieve it - after all, they want to
be rewarded. According to Xiaofeng Chen, Jin Li and Willy Susilo (2012), because
of a lack of higher pay and incentives to work more, 21.4 percent of employees feel
disengaged from their jobs. Employees have personal ambitions, just as a firm does:

13
receiving good income, being in a respected position, moving into a better house,
and so on. However, no matter how hard a manager tries, connecting organisational
goals with personal ambitions of specific employees can be extremely difficult.
Managers can employ incentives in these situations. Incentives can be monetary for
example, higher salaries, bonuses, and so on or non-monetary such as co-
ownership, employee appreciation programme and more. Incentives can encourage
staff and enhance production in either case. If an employer chooses this technique,
it must be something worth battling for, such as a bonus, additional vacation days,
or even a paid weekend getaway.

Next, the other solution for lazy workers is provide training. Employees that
are not productive are not usually due to laziness. They are not always sure how to
carry out their responsibilities. Because hiring is a costly process, it is not a good
idea to fire staff in these situations. Rather, training them is a superior choice.
Training provides several advantages, including the development of a capable
internal source from whom higher-level roles may be filled, better productivity, and
reduced accidents. Employers might provide additional training if necessary to
demonstrate that they care about their personal and professional growth. This might
be to refresh their knowledge or to learn new methods and improve on their present
abilities. By providing training, they are demonstrating their commitment to their
growth, which should have a beneficial impact on the employee's motivation to
advance and perform well within the organisation.

3.2.2 High competition

The problem of competition is a problem that is always faced in business

but if the competition is too high then it will also have a big impact on traders even
if they have been established in the business for a long time. The solution that the
owner can use to solve this problem is to improve the way owner communicate
with the customer when the customer buys goods in the store and do a promotion.
This method will help the owner to reduce the high competition.

14
The communication or way of connecting with customers is also an
important way of attracting customers and instilling the name of the store in their
minds. This is because good service is a major contributor to customer satisfaction.
Owners need to know that customer satisfaction is not only from the product
purchased but the service and interaction are also very important as this will give a
good memory in the mind of the customer, and they will come again to the store.
Owners should hone their way of communicating with customers and be better able
to communicate by calling them with calls that feel close to sister and brother,
perhaps to be more friendly like affection. This will make the customer feel
comfortable and will remember the owner compared to other stores. Furthermore,
to attract tourists requires high communication skills to build relationships with
customers. So, this helps the owner overcome the competition that prevails.
According to VK Duque Rengel et al. (2017) that good communication can increase
customer loyalty. When a store has a lot of customer loyalty, this will provide many
benefits to the owner as well as the store that is operated. Among them is customer
loyalty indirectly being a promoter. When a store offers an attractive service,
customer loyalty will tell others to buy goods in the store. So, communication is
very helpful in building a good relationship with customer and the owner can
overcoming the strong competition between traders.

In addition, the next solution is owner can do promotions for their products.
as said before most of the traders in the business sell almost identical food products.
In fact, this benefits customers as they have many options to be able to do price
comparisons between stores. Yet this is a difficulty faced by traders as they must
compete in terms of price. So doing promotions is a way that can help reduce
competition, but owners should be careful not to lead to losses. For example, blue
eye anchovies are an expensive product, and most traders sell these anchovies.
Owners can do their way by taking anchovies from suppliers in bulk and selling
them at a relatively cheap price compared to other stores and of high quality. Also,
give away some products for free if they buy items over one hundred ringgits. The
advantage of the promotion is that it can benefit both sellers and buyers. However,
excessive promotion can cause huge losses to the seller if the promotion uses a lot

15
of capital. Therefore, sellers need to know the capital calculation or set a day in
doing the promotion. According to Low and Mohr (2000), in promotion and
advertising, budget is an important issue in a business. This is because when owners
invest their budget to promote or advertise their products it will be closely related
to the profits that will be earned in the future. Therefore, owners need to look in
detail at their budget when doing promotions so that they can get high profit from
the promotions they do because from that they can attract customers to come.

16
4.0 CONCLUSION

complete form of business model canvas with nine elements. All of the elements are well
