Lesson #1:Digital Citizenship and the Internet

A- This lesson will be conducted with 2 nd graders during reading block. Most of the leaners are from low

income families and poverty. Students will need to know how to access Google Classroom. The goal of

the lesson is for students to learn what digital citizenship is and how to be safe on the internet.

S- The state objective is set up, share, and utilize collaborative workspaces, documents, or other digital

tools for asynchronous and synchronous collaboration.

S- All chromebooks are in the cart which is located in the classroom. Students will access the Google

Document through Google Classroom. Students will use the video that was shown to them to help with

gathering information. The video can be found at this link:

https://www.commonsense.org/education/lesson/going-places-safely-k-2.

U- The teacher will tell the students that we will be learning about digital citizenship and ways to be

safe. The teacher will play the video as students watch. After the students watch the video, students will

get their chromebook and go to Google Classroom. In Google Classroom, students will click on the link

that will take them to the Padlet that they will be typing on. Next, students are to put one thing on there

that they heard from the video that helps them to be safe on the internet. Students may watch the

video again if need to as the video would be posted in Google Classroom as well.

R- Students will receive feedback as they are working on their document and after turned in. I will add

comments to the document to help give feedback on how they are doing.

E- I will evaluate the effectiveness by giving them a quiz on a Google Document. It would be two

questions: What is digital citizenship? And What is one way you can be safe when on the internet?
Lesson #2: Telling Others how to be Safe

A- This lesson will be conducted with 2 nd graders during reading block. Most of the leaners are from low

income families and poverty. Students will need to know how to access Google Classroom. The goal of

the lesson is for students to use their prior knowledge of internet safety to tell others.

S- The state objective is set up, share, and utilize collaborative workspaces, documents, or other digital

tools for uncommon and common collaboration.

S- All chromebooks are in the cart which is located in the classroom. Students will access the Google

Document through Google Classroom. Students will use the video that was shown to them to help with

gathering information. The video can be found at this link:

https://www.commonsense.org/education/lesson/going-places-safely-k-2.

U- The teacher will review with the students what was talked about previous with internet safety. For

reviewing, teacher will have the students do a quiz using the program called Quizzizz. Students will go

into Google Classroom and click the quizzizz link. The link is follows: https://quizizz.com/join. Once I post

on the board the game code, Students enter it on their screen and then start answering the questions.

After students have done the quiz, the teacher will tell the next assignment to the students. The

assignment would be to create a poster using Google Document or Padlet displaying the ways you can

be safe on the internet. After students have created their poster, the posters will be hung throughout

the school to teach others how to be safe.

R- Students will receive feedback as they are working on their document and after turned in. I will give

them comments on the Padlet and Google Document.

E- I will evaluate the effectiveness by assessing their poster and how well they used their knowledge on

the poster.
Reflections of Lesson #1

This lesson was built upon digital citizenship because it teaches digital etiquette. This is where

students learn what appropriate language and sites are when using the internet. Students need to know

what is safe for them and what is not. By teaching them safe ways to be on the internet, students are

more aware of what is going on. It also teaches them digital communication because they have to be

aware of who they are talking to. As the video says, you have to know who you are talking to before you

email, text, or use social networking. It builds up the tools to teach students the proper actions when

using the technology. The technology is a tool to give students success in their own way. By knowing the

proper words and communication, students can feel more confident in what they are using the

technology for. Students need to feel safe when using the technology. These are elements that are

important when teaching them to be 21 st century learners. The lesson also builds upon the

collaboration and being able to add details from multiple people. This is what helps students build

confidence in themselves and the technology.

Reflections of Lesson #2

This lesson builds upon the element of digital health and wellness. When using technology,

students can feel scared or nervous if they don’t know what to do. This lesson helps to present students

with ways to be safe. By displaying this throughout the school, students can feel better about using the

technology and what to do if come across it. With technology comes many parts to learn. Students need

to be able to feel confident that they can create projects. These projects then get noticed and help to

make everyone feel safe. By building upon prior knowledge, students are able to communicate in a way

that they feel comfortable and have input in. Students want to be able to have a project that displays

their creativity and knowledge of the topic. With this lesson, students are helping empower others
through their learning. This also builds upon digital literacy as not everything comes from a book. As

humans, we are observant to what is around us. Literacy can come in many forms from a book to a

poster. Students are showing the technology can be used to communicate just like you would read a

book.
