Surface Preparation
All surfaces must be cured, clean, dry, and free from dirt, dust, rust, stains, grease, oil, mildew, wax, efflorescence, bond-breakers and other
contaminants. Remove all loose, peeling, or chalky paint by sanding, scraping, or any other appropriate methods. Repair all cracks, holes, and
other surface imperfections with a suitable patching material. Repaired surfaces should then be sanded smooth and dusted clean. Fill in cracks
more than 0.8mm wide. It is always advisable to wait 28 days before treating fresh masonry.
New plaster or masonry surfaces must be allowed to cure (28 days) before applying base coat. Cured plaster should be hard, have a slight sheen
and a maximum pH of 10. A soft, porous or powdery plaster indicates improper cure. Never sand a plaster surface; knife off any protrusions and
prime plaster before and after applying patching compound. Poured or pre-cast concrete with a very smooth surface should be etched or
abraded to promote adhesion, after removing all form release agents and curing compounds. Remove any powder or loose particles.

WATERPROOFING RANGE
CAUTION: Scraping or sanding surfaces of older buildings may release dust containing lead or asbestos. EXPOSURE TO LEAD OR ASBESTOS CAN
BE VERY HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment during surface preparation and finish clean up
of any residues by water-washing all surfaces.

Prepare the surfaces as follow depending on type:

Old asphalt surfaces and bituminous roofing felt: Cut felt blisters crosswise, dry and rebond with suitable adhesive. Allow to cure. Then prime
cleaned surface with Oxibond 4750.
Concrete & Terrazo tile roofs: Following removal of all loose and other alien material, prime with Oxibond 4008 diluted with 20% water. Greater
dilution may lead to weaker bonding with the substrate.
Metal roofs: Clean and remove all rust and apply a rust inhibitive primer. Follow this by applying metal primer to all corroded surfaces.
Other roofs: Should the roof be affected by algae or fungal growth, use a stiff bristled broom to remove this before treating the cleaned surface
with a suitable fungicide, and apply primer coat after consulting with Colortek’s technical team.

Application Conditions
Do not apply at temperatures below 5 °C or when rain is expected.

Application Method
Oxibond 4008 may be applied by brush, roller, squeegee or spray equipment depending on site conditions. To spray, select a nozzle size of at
least 0.028 in.; first checking the spray equipment to ensure suitability.
Apply Oxibond 4008 in a layered system:
§ Diluted Oxibond 4008 at 20% to serve as primer coat.
§ Once primer coat has dried, apply the first coat of Oxibond 4008.
§ Where substantial movement is anticipated in the substructure, Use Colortek 4980 mesh for reinforcement as part of the membrane system.
Lay this mesh in the wet first coat before application of subsequent coats. All detailing to pipes, drains, projected line etc. should be mesh
reinforced in this way.
§ Apply second coat of Oxibond 4008
Note 1: Apply at rate of 0.8 kg/sq m. (excluding the Oxibond 4008 primer coat). The final coating thickness to be achieved depends on the
requirements of the individual roof. A final dry film thickness between 0.5 and 1.5 mm may be built-up.
Note 2. The Diluted Oxibond 4008 primer coat must be completely dry before the first coat is applied.
Note 3. For spraying, Oxibond 4008 may be slightly diluted with water. Too great a dilution may lead to sedimentation and blocking of spray gun.
Note 4. Allow 24 hours between coats. A final curing time of 48 hours is adequate at normal working temperatures. Ensure curing is complete
before laying thermal insulation boards, mechanical protection and other coverings. Low temperatures and high atmospheric humidity will slow
down the curing rate, and vice versa.

PRECAUTIONS
Bitumen or asphalt roof surfaces to receive a coating of Oxibond 4008 should be totally dry. Trapped moisture can lead to severe problems later.
Never apply if rain is imminent.
Application of thick coat at temperature below +5°C may result in incomplete film formation, with reduced elasticity and the possibility of crack
forming.
Oxibond 4008 is resistant to light foot traffic. However, heavy traffic, high heel shoes, furniture, etc. will cause damage. In these cases, the
membrane should be protected by tiles, slabs, etc.
Do not clean the cured Oxibond 4008 coating with brooms that have hard bristles. These may cause damage.
Do not use Oxibond 4008 on areas that will be constantly submerged in water.

Storage and Handling

Care should be taken to avoid spillage. Product should be stored in a dry area and protected from freezing. Extreme temperatures may cause
paint to become unusable. For example: freezing and thawing may cause paint to gel, and high heat may cause solid skin to form.

Safety
Use under well ventilated conditions. Do not breathe or inhale spray mist or sanding dust. Avoid skin contact; spillage on the skin should
immediately be removed with suitable cleanser, soap and water. In case of eye contact, flush immediately with water for at least 15 minutes and
seek medical attention immediately. If you experience difficulty breathing, leave the area to obtain fresh air. If continued difficulty is
experienced, get medical attention immediately.

Cleaning
Remove as much leftover product as possible from the application equipment before cleaning. Clean equipment immediately after use with
warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly. Do not empty product into drains or watercourses.
