PART ONE
1. Choose a city in the U.S. that you would like to research. The population should be more
than 100,000. Go to the website.
2. Go to the website. Select "New York" (state) and "New York" (city) from the pull-down
menu. In the other pull down menu, enter the state and city you have chosen
to research.
3. Click on the links "People," "Economy," "Housing," "Health," "Crime," "Climate," "Education,"
and "Transportation." Read the statistics and compare your cities. Put your notes into a
table.
(Remember: Just look at the site to get information for this exercise; do not give personal
information or credit card information anywhere in the website.)

4. Analyze the data. Write sentences that compare the two cities. Use comparisons with
as...as and comparatives with than.
Examples:
The crime rate in New York City is lower than the crime rate in Hartford.
Hartford’s rate is higher than the national average.
The weather is better in Los Angeles than New York.
Homes cost more in New York than in Miami.
Chicago has as many cultural institutions as New York.
