PART ONE

1. Go to the website. Read the marketing strategies that are often used in advertising to
teenagers.

(Remember: Just look at the site to get information for this exercise; do not give personal
information or credit card information anywhere in the website.)

2. Choose six marketing strategies. What are the advertisers trying to make the target audience
feel with the strategy? Write a sentence or two about the strategies. Use verbs followed by
an infinitive of purpose.
Example:
Strategy: "Sounds Good"
Advertisers use jingles to make people remember the name of the product. They record
the commercial at a high volume to make people pay attention to the ad.

PART TWO

1. Work with a small group. Write a TV commercial for a specific product or service. This can
be for an existing product or service or an imaginary one. The commercial must use one of
the strategies in the website. It should be no longer than three minutes.

2. Act out your commercial for the class.

3. When your commercial is over, ask the class to identify the strategy you used. Ask them if it
was effective.

Example:
You showed a happy family in a hotel. You used this to show family fun, to make people
think the hotel is good for families. The idea is: "Come here to have a good time."
