WEB ACTIVITY: Search the web for information about setting and achieving goals.

PART ONE
1. Go to the website. Read "Ten Goals Worth Pursuing." Choose one goal you would like to
achieve.
2. Click on "Ten Steps to Achieving Any Goal" in the left frame. Read the ten steps for
achieving a goal.
(Remember: Just look at the site to get information for this exercise; do not give personal
information or credit card information anywhere in the website.)
3. Using the goal you selected, write down the steps to achieving your goal. Write any thoughts
and plans you have for the following steps.
Example:
Goal: find more friends and develop better relationships
Why I need this goal: won't feel so lonely
Where I am now: don't know many people because I am new to this school
What I need to know: need to find clubs or groups for my interests
Who can help me: classmates, teachers, international student organization, email my old
friends at home
My plan: join clubs, invite friends to dinner, form a study group at school
My deadline: join two clubs by the end of the semester

4. Write your plan for achieving your goal. Use future time clauses.
Example:
While I am living in the U.S., I need to make friends. When I find more people to do
things with, I won't feel so lonely. I'm going to join a club or two as soon as I can. When I
get familiar with the international student group, I will try to find a conversation partner . . .
PART TWO
Bring your worksheet to class. Work with a partner or small group. Tell your classmates about
your goal and how you plan to achieve it. Let your classmates give you suggestions for achieving
your goal.
