It is imperative that the words are annunciated loud, clear and goncisely as we prepare for a perfectly executed play. The terms are as follows: SET HIT # # SET HIT HIT on 1 ON 2 ON 3 ALL plays on 2 are run out of "Base" formation. If play is not out of “Base", then the aesignated skilled players will shift to the called formation. The shift is executed suddenly on the command of 1 with the intensity of the actual play. Once shifted, two numbers will be voiced, then the remainder of the cadence. Any motion will occur on the second number and the ball will be snapped on the 2nd "Hit" or the 3rd "hit". Running Back, you will have the responsibility on 1) Ball Carer, 2) Blocker, 3) Receiver, 4) Faker, 5) Multiple Formation Alignments, 6) Motion, 7) Knowledge of all assignments. You must be able to execute your assignments, starting with stance and alignments to get off to the proper finish with full speed, effort, and habit. A Blazer Running Back is a running back that will control the destiny of this football team. You are the Football. You can tum a poorly blocked play into a Big Gainer, a short ass into,a TD, and can turn the momentum of a game by executing a crushing block and springing your teammate. ‘You must take personal pride in being the best football player on the field. It takes total concentration and complete unselfishness to be a complete back. You have to test your limits every time you step on the field, and that includes practice as well as games. Only you set limits on what you can do . Be positive and share your enthusiasm with your teammates. Remember, this is a team sport, you can not achieve on you own. Be physical. This starts with being in great shape. Work in the weight room and on the field to be in the best shape you can be in, Be an intimidator. We do not FEAR anybody. We will be the hitters and we will be the aggressors. There is no substinution for hard work and second effort. ef Asa Running Back, you will master the fundamentals, We will start with the stance and go through the steps to progress all the way to the finish. A back must take pride in doing the little things. From the little things will grow BIG things. Start at the beginning, practicing good habits and you will be rewarded. Exchange - Inside elbow is up with the back of your hand against your chest, thumbs down. Away arm is resting at belt level, palm up. As QB places ball in the pocket, roll top hand down and bottom hand up securing both tips of the football. Keep ball secure through the LOS. B. Open Field Carriage - Drag ball across chest and secure the back tip with your elbow. You should feel the bail against your body at all times. keep your back elbow tucked in. C. Changing Arms - Slide ball across chest, never letting it away from your body. Reach across and under the football with your opposite arm and secure the back tip. Cradle it back to normal position with back elbow tucked in. D. Coaching Points Keep both tips secure. Keep ball against your body. Keep back elbow tucked. Don’t forget you have the ball, keep it with you through your whole run, including cuts. 5. Secure the ball through the Danger Zone (LOS). pupe RUNNING WITH THE FOOTBALL When running with the football, you must take great pride in being a NORTH and SOUTH RUNNER. We want to make people miss, but there always comes a time ‘we must punish the tackler and make extra yards. Running with the football is similar to blocking in that you must use leverage and you must accelerate through contact. A. Open Field Running - we will use a variery of weapons depending on each of the back’s own skills and abilities. L ‘Change of Direction - Quickly close gap on the tackler and plant - on the opposite foot with a bent knee and accelerate away from the original direction, don’t go laterally, always gain ground. Never make more than one move. 2. °° Hitand Spin - As you drive at the tackler, bend your knees to insure leverage and accelerate into tackler with your near shoulder. ‘When you make contact, pivot on the outside foot, and roll away from tackler's grasp. Keep feet undemeath you and gain ground. 3. Sideline - Drive into tackler’s near number and rip near arm. through his inside hip. Keep knees bent and accelerate through contact. Run North and South and do not allow the tackler to angle tackle you. Keep your weight above your feet. 4. Split Defenders - Drive straight upfield between two defenders and use them as balance. Protect the ball, accelerate, keep weight above your fest and run with leverage. TM. EAKING ‘When faking, you must use all the same techniques that you would use if you were carrying the ball. It is a matter of pride and want in order to be a good faker. A. Camry body and arms in the same position as if you were receiving a + handoff. B. Keep your head up as if you are reading the blocking. Never look down (you do not do that when you havé the football) C. Attack the LOS and furthet until you get tackled; if you do not get tackled, continue and make a block. RECEIVING Catching 2 football is CONCENTRATION. When a ball is thrown, you must put all you attention on the bail; eyes, hands, and body. A. General Rule: When 2 bail is thrown above the chest, put your thumbs together. When a ball is thrown below the chest, put your litle fingers together. B. See the ball all the way into your hands and keep your eye on it until itis “seeurely tucked into your arm, C. Start running only after you have secured the catch. BLOCKING Great technique can overcome a lot when it comes to a blocking. Great technique and great effort will overcome all other obstacles. It takes a lot of pride to show ‘great effort and never allowing 2 defender to beat you. A. Drive Block - Used to kick out an outside linebacker. Step near foot to Dutt of tackle and run straight line through defender. Bend knees, keeping line, keeping defender in the center of your body. Do not allow defender to turn your body. Would like to drive defender out and backwards while expanding hole. a B. . Lead Block - Used on inside linebacker on isolation. Take a lead step then drive upfield with the points of aim being the outside number of linebacker (If guard is covered, read his block). Keep leverage and accelerate through contact. [f linebacker over scrapes, kick him out. C. Load Block - Used on inside linebacker on outside run plays. Take lead step to point of aim. Gain ground past line of scrimmage and cut linebacker at thigh board level. Drive inside arm through outside leg of linebacker working to get head and shoulders going North dnd South. D. Fill Block - Used to block area for pulling linemen. take iead step to point of aim. Run through inside thigh board of defensive linemen. Accelerate through contact; do not wait for him to come to you. Drop Back Pass - Set on inside of hip of offensive tackle using him to protect your inside. Knees bents and hands are up, ready to punch. As defender approaches step into him keeping him in the center of your body. Stop his initial charge and get hands to his pecks with a punch. Must not allow defender to get to your outside shoulder. work with outside foot and outside hand to work defender wide and away from QB. Sprint Out Pass - Lead step to a point | yard behind and 1 yard outside the tight end. Run through defender and drive your inside arm through his outside thigh board. Work to get head and shoulders North and South. Get defender on the ground. If your man drops into coverage, look for scape linebacker to helping the offensive tackle. ea BALLSECURITY THREE POINTS OF PRESSURE L EAGLE CLaw: A. Thisis the way we grip the football. Our fingers will be spread over the from tip, with our index finger covering the point. I. FOREARM PRESSURE: : AL Press the forearm against the ball pinning it to your rib cage. ML RIBCAGE: A. Keep the ball tucked up high on the rib cage with your elbow tucked behind the ball not allowing any light between the ball, your body, and your elbow. BALL SECURITY IS THE KEY TO VICTORY! — KNOWLEDGE OF ASSIGNMENT There is no excuse for not knowing what io do. A complete back will not only know his assignments, but that of the oft ve linemen. By understanding every play, you can better anticipate what will happen and where you should run, etc. A B. c D. Study your playbook. Concentrate at meetings and on the field.
