What is It

Trousers are type of dress pants the men and women wear. It is a great achievement if
you can create one for your casual wear or formal look. Although the term used here is
ladies trouser, same procedure can be followed for men. There will only be slight
differences on the body measurements.
These are the basic steps in assembling garment parts for ladies trouser that you should
follow carefully to achieve a satisfying output.
A. Prepare cut parts – from the previous quarter you have learned how to draft
pattern and cut the fabric for ladies trouser. Now, you need to gather and prepare the
cut parts.

Notes:
• Measurement of the front and back trouser will pattern measurement of the model.
• Pocket measurement is 12 inches by 10 inches (standard measurement).

• Zipper placket measurement is 4 inches by 5 inches (standard measurement).
• Standard measurement is the measurement assumed for normal body size.

Actual Fabric

B. Sew and assemble the ladies trouser.

1. Sew the darts on both front and back parts of the trouser (Pressed the seam if you it to
be flat).

2. Attach the pockets.
a. For ease in sewing, baste the pocket material in the front pants first. Then, sew
permanently by employing machine stitch. Be sure that you sew on the wrong side of the
fabric. (In the absense of sewing machine you can still sew manually by using needle
and thread, just be patient for it will take longer time.)

b. Apply top stitch on the pocket material.

c. Sew the pocket materials on the wrong side.

d. Make slashes on the curve part. Reverse the pocket materials. Sew the right side.
Repeat steps a, b and c on the other pants and pocket materials.

3. Attach the zipper placket.


a. Fold the placket material in the center then attach it on the left front pants. Top stitch the
placket material.

b. Attach the zipper on the right pants. Attach the other piece of placket material.

c. Top stitch the right side of the pants.

d. Match the left and right parts of the front pants.

e. Join the zipper and placket material.

4. Sew the front crotch. Be sure to leave at least two inches before the edge intended for joining
with the back crotch.

5. Top stich the front pants along the zipper placket slightly curving down to the crotch. Be
sure not to sew the other zipper placket.

6. Sew the Back crotch. Be sure to leave at least two inches before the edge intended for
joining with the front crotch.

7. Match the front and back pants. Sew the out seam (left and right).

8. Sew the in-seam (left and right).

9. Join the front and back crotch.

10. Sew the hemline (left and right).

11. Attach the waistband around the waist of the trouser.


a. Sew the waistband at the wrong side while at the right side of the pants .

b. Sew the sides of the waistband on the wrong side.

c. Reverse the waistband then top stitch the waistband on the right side.
