1. FORM:

TYPE IF – CLAUSE MAIN CLAUSE

will
Type 1: S+ can
+ V-inf
Có thật ở hiện tại hoặc tương shall
lai may
Simple present

Simple present
(chỉ 1 sự thật, 1 quy luật hoặc
1 thói quen)

could
Type 2: Simple past (QKĐ) S+ would
Không có thật ở hiện tại should + V-inf
(V2; be  were) might

could
Type 3: Past perfect (QKHT) S+ would + have + P.P
Không có thật ở quá khứ should
(had + V3/V_ed) might

EX: + If I have time, I’ll help you

+ If I were you, I would come there.

+ He would have passed the exam if he had studied hard = If he had studied hard, he
would have passed the exam.

2. UNLESS: (Nếu không, trừ phi) = If not

 + If you don’t study hard, you’ll fail the exam.
 Unless you study hard, you’ll fail the exam.
 Lưu ý: Khi đổi câu điều kiện If sang Unless, không được đổi mệnh đề IF ở thể (+) sang
thể (-) mà phải đổi mệnh đề chính theo thể ngược lại.
EX:
+ If I have time, I’ll help you
 Unless I have time, I won’t help you

+ If we had more rain, our crops would grow faster.

 Unless we had more rain, our crops wouldn’t grow faster.
