3.0 MATERIALS

3.1 Fabric

3.1.1 Supply chain-link pattern with 2" diamond mesh of 9 gauge (U.S. steel wire gauge)
woven steel fabric in accordance with ASTM A392 with Class 2 galvanizing. Twist
and barb top and bottom selvages.

3.2 Wire

3.2.1 Supply tension wire 7 gauge spring coil wire galvanized in accordance with ASTM
A116 Class 3; and locate at the top and bottom of the fabric.

3.2.2 Supply barbed wire strand consisting of two 12-1/2 gauge galvanized wires with 14
gauge galvanized barbs in a 4-point pattern at 6" centers, in accordance with ASTM
A121 and have Class 3 galvanizing.

3.3 Pipe

3.3.1 Supply tubular members in accordance with ASTM A120, Schedule 40, for weight
and coating with nominal diameters of the various members as shown in Table A-1
of the Appendix A, unless noted otherwise on Drawings.

3.3.2 Make gate frames from 2" nominal diameter pipe and braces from 1-1/2" nominal
diameter with heavy malleable iron or pressed steel corner fittings.

3.4 Extension Arms

3.4.1 Provide heavy pressed steel extension arms to posts, except terminal posts, to
support 3 rows of barbed wire. Vertical extension arms shall be used where the
fence is placed on the property line.

3.5 Top Rails

3.5.1 Provide top rails of 1 1/4" Schedule 40 pipe only on transformer yard fencing with
suitable expansion joints where necessary.

3.6 Braces

3.6.1 Install 1 1/4" Schedule 40 pipe, midway between the fence top and grade, to extend
horizontally from terminal posts to first adjacent line post. Securely fasten braces to
posts using heavy pressed steel connections and truss from line posts to terminal
post with 3/8" diameter adjustable truss rods. Brace corner posts each way.

3.7 Hardware

3.7.1 Provide Manufacturer's standard hardware, with the following qualifications:

3.7.1.1 Hinges: Offset for 90° open stand

3.7.1.2 Latches: Gravity engagement with provision for padlocking.

3.7.1.3 Keepers: Automatic "hold-open" type, installed at bottom rails

3.7.1.4 Stops: Center stops are required for all double gates.

3.8 Concrete

3.8.1 Use concrete for footings having a minimum compressive strength of 2900 psi (20
Mpa) at 28 days and conforming with PCP Standard B-40-8.

3.9 Miscellaneous

3.9.1 Securely fasten the fabric to terminal, pull and corner posts by means of 1/4" X 3/4"
steel tension bars, secure them to the posts with 11 gauge pressed steel bands at
18" centers.
3.9.2 Fasten the fabric to line posts and top rails with 6 gauge wire clips at 18" centers
and to the bottom tension wire with 9 gauge tie wires at 2' 0" centers.

3.9.3 Provide posts with tops to exclude moisture from the post interior.

3.9.4 Supply fittings, unless otherwise specified, galvanized in accordance with CSA
G164.

4.0 INSTALLATION

4.1 General

4.1.1 Install posts at 10'-0" centers maximum and plumb both ways. Firmly support posts
while concrete is hardening.

4.1.2 Do concrete work in accordance with PCP Standard B-40-7. Do not pour concrete
against frozen ground.
