Charlie in the
0:18 Chazza: Good afternoon and welcome studio
to Thursdays cmp news

Mills: Yes, with the Christmas rush
now over, we now approach the first

couple of weeks

of January,

Chazza: As seen, this Christmas
reached its peak with the public
actually allowed to go out and shop
in time for the big day,

Mills: Whilst this may have been
good and beneficial it also caused
a major up-spiral in the market and
put a lot of pressure on
companies,

Chazza: Some of our top story’s
this afternoon consist of, how
travel bookings have
been effected recently due
to covid, how deforestation is
effecting our planet,

Mills: Also just how bad online
scamming is becoming, and we have
Casper Allpress reporting on The
Ashes cricket matches, followed

by Charlie again with the
weather.

TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS

Mills: Now for the people looking
0:57
forward to travel abroad due to the
most recent announcement, about the Play b-roll of the sign
easing of covid rules when that says testing
travelling should also know a

recent surge in holiday bookings
has increased, this is due to the
rules now being, for people wanting
to travel you will now not need to
show proof of a negative PCR test
nor provide the pre-
departure covid tests, this meaning
those arriving back into the UK
will no longer have to wait for
their day two test whilst having to
self-isolate which is also going to
save a lot of time and money,
however under 18s will need to be

able to provide a negative lateral

flow test which will also apply to
double jabbed travellers.  Play b-roll of the busy
Charlie: Derek Jones the CEO is airport
predicting that travel will be "90
per cent back before the end of
spring" he states. This prediction
has come from the most recent
travel announcement from Boris. The
Surge reported to many companies is
that multiple websites are crashing
because of traffic due to all off
the travel enquiries regarding the
new rules. The airline Jet2 have

stated that holidays have struck up
with demands returning to "around
pre-covid levels" the company saw a
"huge spike “within bookings which Tui plane flying
is what boss Steve Heapy told the
BBC after the pre-departure tests
for the fully vaccinated people
would be gotten rid of by the
government.

MILLS: The airline Tui had said
they experienced a "strong uptick"
and Its bookings for EasyJet was
said it rose almost 200% compared
to last week. With EasyJet’s

flights departing out to Spanish
destinations in such a high demand
with bookings, place's such as
Lanzarote and Tenerife bookings
were up 427% week on week.

Charlie: Overall from London
Gatwick for the summer of 2022 the
airline has put about 1.1 million
more seats on sale. EasyJet has
also said in a survey taken
themselves more Brits are planning
on going on much more holidays than

normal and will be spending a-lot
more money. The day of the travel
rule change announcement the chief
executive of long-haul tour
operator Blue Bay Travel, Alister
Rowland had said that was the
busiest day the company had faced
for enquiries online followed by
website traffic in bookings.

6:25 PLAY PACKAGE (NO ONE TALK)

VEGANUARY

MILLS: When it comes to climate
change one of the most common
subjects that come to mind are
deforestation. The removal of trees
for varied reasons such as for DEFORESTATION
fires, has been spoken about for
many decades and has been listed as
one of the most harmful factors of
nature loss and environment harm.

We know that trees and plants
absorb up to a third of the
atmospheres CO2.
CHARLIE: But as we cut down the
ecosystem, we are reducing the
planets' ability to lock away the
harmful gasses that are burnt from
fossil fuels, that is almost the
size of Libya, we need to protect
these trees for many different
reasons such as the fact that trees
cool down the atmosphere as no
matter how hot it is where there
are trees it will always be cool
therefore helping global warming;

provide homes for many different
species and food for animals like Deforestation
birds and badgers However, over the
past 30 years campaigns have made a
massive impact and over the past 7
years we have begun to see They
also a change. The rates of
deforestation have begun to decrees
from 2015-2020 as the numbers were
at 10 million hec-acres down from
16 hec-acres from the 1990.

MILLS: But you don’t have to be an
Deforestaion
activist to help the issue there
are some more simple ways you can
create an impact like engaging in
tree planting, reducing the amount
of paper you use and join
organisations that protect trees
This has been going on for many
years and people are aware of the
problem so were left wondering why
is this still going on? Well, over
time forests have been used to make
space for farming and animal
grazing, and to obtain wood for

fuel and construction. 2000

years ago 80% of western Europe was
forested, today the number is 34%.
These days the most deforestation
is mainly in the tropical
rainforest, a factor aiding this
would be extensive road Deforesation
construction into areas that used
to be inaccessible.

CHAZZA: The slash and burn method
in agri-culture is a big
contributor to deforestation, it is
when farmers burn large amounts of

forests, allowing the ash to
fertilize the land for crops. This
only stays fertile for a little bit
so then the farmers must re do this
process somewhere else.  Recently,
the department for Environment,
food and rural affairs announced
two new environment land management
schemes this is going to be called
Wild East. One of these schemes is
going to back changes to the use of
land and habitat restoration. Wild
east has a vision that in 50 years
we will return to having six
hundred and seventeen thousand

seven hundred and sixty-three acres
of land across the east of England
that will be nature. Many different
companies, groups and even school
premises can pledge areas of land
to help the scheme.

MILLIE: Despite this being good for Any of the b-roll that
the environment it is going to come has computer/mobile
with some negative side effects, devices
for example the commons committee
warned that there will be a ‘big
increase in food prices and

shortages due to an overhaul of
payment for farmers. The
government’s plans to reward
farmers for protecting the
environment are based of blind
ideal-ism and in the end the
country is going to have to rely on
imports alone. The national Farming Any of the b-roll that
union has stated their growing has computer/mobile
worry about Britain’s food devices
security, warning that by changing
the use of agricultural land will
damage the UK’s self-sufficiency

and lead to increased imports.   We

can only hope that the people
involved can find a way to resolve
the issue.

Charlie: Onto the next news story,
an upcoming epidemic of young
scammers amongst our communities.

These scammers or as they call
themselves “fraudsters”, have found
new methods to prosper in their
actions. The most common one of
these is where they trick targets
into handing over their private
information such as banking
details. They do this with a method
called “phishing” where they send
fake emails or text messages to a
victim pretending to be a trusted
bank or delivery company such as
amazon or the royal mail.
In these emails they contain a
link which is meant to look like

one redirecting the user to the
companies log in website however
that is also fake, the user then
will type in their account info to
log in and the scammers now have
this log in information and will
take out money and transfer it to
other personal accounts or scam
accounts. The scammers then use
this fraudulently obtained money to
buy items from online retailers
such as John Lewis and multiple
designer brands and resell them on

online retailers such as eBay or
Gumtree.
This is a very effective method as
it seems rather believable to
someone who has not heard of or
come across this scam before,
chosen victims are often older Novack playing tennis
people as they are seen as less
tech smart therefore more
susceptible to the process. A
recent news headline was made as a
Chinese University student was
contacted by scammers who claimed

to be the police.

Today I am joined in the studio
with Sophie who was recently a
victim of scamming.

INTERVIEW WITH SOPHIE

The latest figures released by UK
Finance show the scale of the
problem, that is that the scale of
scamming and fraud is only
increasing. In the first half of
2021 criminals stole a total of
£753.9 million through fraud which

is an increase of 30 percent since
this time in 2020.

deforestation

CASPER: NOVAK DJOKOVIC

When it comes to the Australia open
there is one person’s name that
comes to mind, Novak Djokovic. The
Australian government is preparing
a case to deport Djokovic as
investigation zooms in on
inconsistencies in his statement
during concern with letting him
stay. It has been said that the
government is willing to receive
Harsh backlash internationally over
the problem in order to maintain
its tough Covid19 border stance. He
was originally set to be deported
after being detained at an
immigration hotel over the weekend
but he won the fight in the Federal
0circuit court to remain in the
country hunting his 10th Australian
open title. The immigration
minister is said to decide today,
fans can only hope that he can
stay!

  Thank you, Millie and Charlie.
In sporting news, The ashes has
finished with a humiliating day
for England with a loss of 4-0
against Australia.

Despite this, good fortune did
come to England when the all-
rounder Ben Stokes and teammate
Johnny Bairstow were able to
return for the final test
match.

Previously, Ben Stokes appeared
to suffer a side injury on day
two of the fourth Ashes Test in
Sydney. Stokes was in the middle
of a sustained spell of short-
pitched bowling, but pulled up
clutching his side with one ball
left in his 14th over.
The 30-year-old then left the
field without completing, with
Mark Wood bowling the final
ball.

A reoccurring theme in cricket
generally seems to be the
repeated racial scandals,
particularly in Northern
England, where Yorkshire interim
coach Ryan Sidebottom apologised
for racism scandal comments.
Could this continuous issue be
one of the reasons England’s
form has been so poor?

Very few professional cricketers
in England are British South
Asians. Approximately, 30% of
recreational players are of
South Asian heritage, while only
4% of professional players are
British South Asian.
Speaking to the guardian,
Laura Cordingley, CEO of
cricket charity  ‘Chance to
Shine,’ said: “to think that
many people may now feel that
the sport we love does not
welcome them is quite frankly
devastating.”
Reasons for young Asian
cricketers not making it to
professional careers may be due
to them feeling like outsiders.
This must change and we must
take actions to make other
ethnic groups feel they have a
chance to go pro. This will
boost cricket for England and
cricket as a sport.
That’s all from me today, over
to daisy.

Thank you, Casper, good
afternoon, I am
Charlie Coultrip with your
weekly weather report.
Today will see a foggy and misty
early morning however it will
lift in most areas and turn to a
dry and sunny remainder of the
morning, mixed in with cloudy
and some brighter spells this
afternoon.
Tomorrow we will see rain clear
and clouds break through without
the morning, allowing sunny
spells to develop. It will then
be mostly dry but scattered
showers will linger in some
northern areas overall I expect
a windy day for many.
And now for the Forecast from
Thursday to the end of the week,
Thursday will largely be a dry
and sunny day with patches of
clouds in spells.
Friday will continue to be
settled with sunshine in the
south and east, but cloudier in
the west.
Saturday is to remain cloudy in
the north with spells of rain at
times, but mostly dry.
Sunday looks much of the same to
round out the week
Back to millie in the studio.

Mills: thank you for tuning
into cmp news
that’s all from us this afternoon,
have a good evening.
