Date to Visit: October 13, 2021

In my own observation, the classroom is very much warm to study and very
comfortable. The environment and ambiance of the room is very much appealing.

It has visual aids which are very pleasant to the eyes, furniture is properly
arranged and it is well-ventilated which is why students can totally concentrate to
their lessons. It also amazes me a lot when the teacher is no longer using a manila
paper for her lesson but a television which I have not experienced during my Junior
High School years. Plus the new renovate classrooms has its own comfort room. This
is an advantage because the students can go to the comfort room with no hustle since
it is inside of their room.

Meanwhile, when crossing to the room, the students are greeting us "good
morning, visitors" which is indeed a heartwarming. W also take our response they also
greet us. The classroom facilities they have are a big help to motivate the students in
the learning process.

OBSERVE
How do the school campus and the classroom in particular impact the learning of the
students going to school? What are your conclusions?

The facilities of the school campus and the classroom greatly affect the learning of
the students that go to school, because if the school and classroom is improper and not
ventilated, the students will start to think not to go to school. For instance, there are
schools today that are very much limiting their cost whereby the number of students is not
enough to the ratio of the chairs and to the point that some students sat on the floor. In this
scenario, I conclude that if the students are not comfortable or satisfied of a certain school
they will get lazy and skip classes because they cannot concentrate if their school
environment doesn't fit to their learning adaptability. But, in the contrary, if they are
comfortable or satisfied enough with the facilities of a school, then they will be more eager
to attend the school regularly.
How does this relate to your knowledge of child and adolescent development/How
does this relate to your knowledge of facilitating learning?

In relation to my previous knowledge of child and adolescent development,

students easily grasp information if they were exposed to a friendly atmosphere, free from
noises and distractions. They could easily learn if the teacher uses variety and novelty of
learning materials and encourage them always. But, I always have to keep in mind that
children do not learn in the same rate. So, as a future teacher, I have to understand each
child’s behavior and personality and must follow the methods and techniques that are best
for my students to learn and see to it that it is effective.

REFLECT
1. Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed? Why? Why
not?

Yes, because the school environment is very accessible although it is

located in rural area. The building is situated in a good place which provides
proper ventilation. The surroundings are very peaceful, clean, not polluted,
very refreshing and covered by green pasture that brighten up the day and
gives a cool and cozy environment.

2. What kind of school campus is conducive to learning?

In my own views and opinion, a certain school can be considered

conducive to learning if it has complete facilities and equipment for teaching.
The surroundings are clean, well-maintained and free from any pollution.
Now that we are in a technological age, schools must be updated in any form
of learning and by that, it will surely help and benefited by the learners to
understand the subject matter they are studying.

3. What kind of classroom is conducive to learning?

A classroom that is conducive to learning is a clean, not be too

crowded to prevent classroom management problems and to maximize
learning, ventilated and well-lighted classroom with proper chairs,
functioning electric fans for the ease of students, all other facilities that will
greatly contribute for the attainment of knowledge of the students and most
especially an expert teacher by profession and by heart.

4. In the future, how can you accomplish your answer in number 3?

If God will bless and grant my aspiration in life which is to become a
teacher someday, I will be resourceful and creative when I structure my
classroom. I will make sure that my classroom is well-organized and clean. I
must be prepared in every classroom situation I will use my creativity and
passion in teaching to catch their attention in every side of the classroom.
Most of all, I must bear in mind that learners attention span is short and I
should be aware of how to handle different kinds of behavior. I believe that
every student has always had a voice for every suggestions and opinions and I
will not deprive it from them.

5. Write your additional learnings and insights here.

This subject helps me to learn everything necessary for the students

to become ready as a future teacher. The ability to observe classroom
conditions will help me to become aware about how to achieve good and
effective school environment and on how to provide the learners a classroom
that is conducive to learning. I've also learned that it is very vital to know and
understand that there is no individual in the class who learns in the same
level or speed. Every child completely differs from one another and their
multiple intelligences greatly vary. So, I need to be flexible enough and do my
best to give the best education for them.

ACTIVITY Observing Bulletin Board Displays

The display board, or what we more commonly refer to as bulletin board, is one of
the most readily available and versatile learning resources.
To achieve the Intended Learning Outcomes, work your way through these steps:
1) Examine for bulletin board displays. Include samples of those found at the entrance,
lobby, hallways and classrooms. 2) Pick one and evaluate the display. 3) Propose
enhancements to make the display more effective.

OBSERVE
As you look around and examine board displays, use the observation guide and forms
provided for you to document your observations.

An Observation Guide for BOARD DISPLAYS

Read the following carefully before you observe.

1. Go around the school and examine the board displays. How many board displays do
you see?
2. Where are the display boards found? Are they in places where target viewers can
see them?
3. What are the displays about? What key messages do they convey? What images and
colors do you see? How are the pieces of information and images arranged?
4. What materials were used in making the displays? Are borders used?
5. Do you notice some errors? (misspelled words, grammar inconsistencies and the
like)
6. Are the messages clear and easily understood?
7. Think about what got your attention. Why did it get your attention?
8. Take a photo of the display boards (if allowed).
Based on the questions on the observation guide, write your observation report:

As I walk around the school premises and examine the board displays on that
particular area, there are 8 bulletin boards in every classroom, 1 outside the Principal's
Office and 1 in the right side of the entrance gate.

The display boards are placed inside of every room except for the entrance gate and
Principal's Office. All of these are highly visible and accessible for all the students, parents
and stakeholders. This is also proportion to the height and size of the wall.

As what I have mentioned, every classroom has its own bulletin boards. One is for
the health information which consists of posters of food pyramid and hygienic activities,
the other is about the birthdates of the students, schedules of cleaners, statistical data and
the best written works of the students while the rest of the boards are for different subjects
that is taught in the class which is filled with colorful pictures and captions.

On the other hand, the bulletin board which can be found at the right side of the
entrance gate is all about National Bullying Prevention Month wherein it is well-
constructed and creatively done. Outside the Principal's Office is a board display about the
information of everyone. It is consist of announcements to the learners and teachers. Has a
picture of food pyramid and education programs of other schools around the city. The
borders are visible, the colors of the board are in harmony with the wall and the prints are
friendly to the eyes.

All of the board displays are well-constructed and they are creatively done. It is
color printed and has minimal designs. The materials used in making prints are cartolina
and white papers. The prints are correctly spelled, grammatically free from errors, simple,
understandable and friendly to common audience. The borders were made of wood and
covered with cartolina that defines the edges and corners of the board. The pictures are
also very attractive to the eyes and easily catch the attention of the students. Since the
school caters from kindergarten to Grade 6 students, so both pictures and texts that are
used are big in size.

What really got my attention is the uniqueness of the board which conveys the
message about uniting our nation for kindness, acceptance and inclusion, and even the
world, to visibly show that we believe no child should ever experience bullying.
From among the board displays that you saw, pick the one that you got most
interested in. Evaluate it using the evaluation form below.

Based on your suggestions, make your board display lay-out. You may present your
output through any of these:
 A hand-made drawing or layout
 An electronic (computer) drawing/illustration or layout
 A collage
ANALYZE
o What do you think was the purpose of the board displays?

In my own opinion, the purpose of board display is to convey information of

the students such as information about the content of the subjects, recognize excellent
students who excel in various subjects, values formation and announcements such as
activities and meetings. However, based on what I've seen, the purpose of it is to
inform the target audience about the upcoming events of their school. There are also
motivational sayings which motivate the learners to their studies.

o Did the board display design reflect the likes/interest of its target audience?
Why? Why not?

Yes, it is surely reflecting the likes/interest of the whole audience because the
information or the message is very convincing, the colors are eye catchy and most of
all, the prints are attractive and simple to understand. Thus, if the board display
design is kind of boring and too plain, target viewers will not be interested most
especially if the audience are kids. Thus, the makers should at least place colorful
materials and artistic designs that can catch their interest and holds attention. Prints
must attractive and simple to understand, as well as the message must also be
convincing.

o Was the language used clear and simple for the target audience to
understand? Why? Why not?

Yes, because the words that are being used are appropriate to the level of
students. However, there are some words that aren't bold enough to be clearly seen.
There are also few words that need to be arranged properly to avoid confusion to the
thought of the sentence.

o Was the board display effective? Why? Why not?

Yes, it is effective because it is more of visuals and less of prints. Children at

an early age are very visuals and highly appreciative of visual prints so, they
remember things with more visual reminders rather than prints. In addition,
information can easily disseminate because you don't need to gather all the audience
to inform them but instead, you just need to post it in the board display.

o What suggestions can you make?

My suggestion is to rearranged some of the words in order to deliver much

clearer thought of the sentence and put some effort in styling the board displays in a
way that it is not overcrowded and students, teachers and even outsiders could
noticed it immediately and realizes those things that this school could provide.
Based on your suggestions, propose an enhanced version of the display board. Use
the form below.

Theme: Health and Hygiene

Board Title: Cleanliness is next to Godliness
Rationale (Purpose):
 The target audience will be reminded to keep their body and environment clean,
safe and healthy.
 To give friendly encouragement to the target audience to clean or tidy up to have a
healthy mind and body.
Objectives:
At the end of the day, the target audience will be able to:
a. Keep themselves clean and bright to maintain their healthy lifestyle and
healthy living which is away from any diseases.
b. Help improve their personality by keeping clean externally and internally.
Best features of my proposed bulletin enhancement:
 A picture of a girl and a boy who cleans the school ground
 Cleaning tools and personal hygiene
Content Resources (Name each needed resource and give each a brief description):
 Saying about cleanliness- these cut out words depicts about how to become healthy
and a clean individual.
 Facts about cleanliness- a picture of a girl and a boy who cleans their school to keep
it clean and safe from diseases.
 Hygienic kits and cleaning tools- these cut out pictures are the things to be needed in
order to keep the body and environment clean and healthy.
Materials for aesthetic enhancement:
1. Cartolina
2. Printed Pictures from the Internet
3. Printed Sayings from the Internet
4. Styrofoam
5. Plastic Cover
REFLECT
1. Name at least 5 skills that a teacher should have to be able to come up with
effective board displays. Elaborate on why each skill is needed.

In order to come up with an effective and efficient board display, the teacher
must be:

a. Informative. The board display must have varied yet appropriate

information in order for the audience easily gets the point of view of the
message. That is why, the teacher must gather information from all
types of sources.
b. Resourceful. Not all schools provide everything for the set-up of
bulletin boards. It doesn't need to be expensive to look it very nice.
Hence, a teacher should be able to deal skilfully despite the lack of
resources. Look for indigenous materials to make it unique such as
making a collage that conveys information to the audience aside from
what is being written and posted.
c. Creative. There are an abundance of resources available over the
Internet to enhance the creativity of the teacher. Through creativity, the
bulletin board can easily capture the attention and the eyes of the
students so a teacher must have a sense of art on how to combine
colours and make designs appropriate to the theme and purpose of the
board display.
d. Tech-Equipped. It is important to be updated with the resources that
are available over the Internet. There are lots of useful data being
shared online by fellow teachers so the key is to select the appropriate
resources for your target audience.
e. Observant. Assessment is very vital in order for the teacher to identify
the needs of the students. Thus, a teacher must develop assessment
skills in order to have an idea of what type of board display he or she
make to fill in the need of the students in terms of learning.

2. Which of the skills do you already have? Recall your past experiences in making
board displays. How do you practice these skills?

Among the skills I am enumerating above, I have the skills of being an

observant, creative, resourceful and tech-equipped. I practiced these skills during my
high school years wherein we made board display design for our classroom through
the use of recycled materials. Since I love art crafts, I see to it that the texts and
pictures are highly visible to the eyes of the audience and the colours are well-blend to
its theme.

3. Which skills do you still need to develop? Reflect on how you can improve on or
acquire these skills.

The skill that I need to improve is the choice of words to be used in the board
display to convey what is needed to be done. I made a mistake during my high school
years wherein the readers misinterpreted the meaning of my display due to
inappropriate words I used. So, the concrete solution in order to improve these skills
is to practice constantly through reading books and surfing on the internet to be able
to refine my vocabulary and grammar.

On the opposite box, present an illustration showing your idea of an effective school
environment through any of these:
 A Descriptive Paragraph
 A Photo Essay
 A Sketch or Drawing
 A Poem, Song or Rap

Effectiveness of school environment relies on its safe learning environment that is

free from hazardous places. Classrooms must be well-organized, informational,
inspirational, clean, well-ventilated and free from noise of the outside world to make the
learners concentrate, motivates and comfortable in their studies. Facilities and resources
should be present and ready to give support whenever it is needed like the library, audio
visuals, computers and the like. Bulletin boards are also present in every corners of the
school so that the information can easily disseminate and it should be catchy in a sense
that it is not too crowded with designs as well as informative to be able to catch the
attention or easily convince the target audience.

Learners should know how to respect their classmates. Teachers must also be able
to adjust smoothly in any certain situations happened from time to time. Since school is a
center of learning, so therefore, its safety standards should be tight to avoid accidents
inside the classroom and the campus itself. And lastly, every learner should be develop
