Factors Affecting the Preference in Choosing College Arts and Humanities Courses of Grade 12

(HUMSS) of Good Shepherd Academy

Introduction

In today’s generation, there are a lot of courses that we should to choose for our career. Dreams may

also be based on goals that can be realized. The first decision they would make would be whether or not

continue with education. The second is the choice of institution to attend to high school to help them develop

as a better person. Some wants famous and prestigious schools with better opportunity.Choosing college

courses is an important aspect to determine the skills and ability needed to the related jobs in that course.These

factors my include job opportunity, preferred course of the parents, peer’s influence and personal choice of

course. This study will further discuss these factors and how it affects the selection of art and humanities

college courses.

Statement of the Problem

This research study aims to determine the factors affecting the selection of college course by the selected G-12

HUMSS students who are graduating this year. It sought to answer the following problems:

1.What are the top three expressed career choices of the students?

2. What are the problems encountered in making their career choice?

3. What are the factors that affect students in selecting college courses?

Value of the Study

This study is value to the following:

Students

In these accounts of the study, students are placed to be more benefited advantageous. Strength and

weaknesses for their career development by continually summarizing and reflecting upon what they are

learning from home, school and community. By conducting this research, the students will able to decide what

course to take according to the factors that affect them.

Parents

In this modern society, parents or guardians plat a big role in the life of their child especially if the child is

graduating child an assurance to acquire quality education that would enable them to obtain better job, better

income and brighter futures.

School Administration
The result of this study will help the school administration in putting up on effective, integrated career

information and guidance systems that place a very helpful role in guiding students towards making the best

possible career decisions.

Definition of Variable

What is standard?

In this study, we will define the quality of courses as the ability of a student to perform. The study shall

focus on the factors including job opportunity, preferred course of the parents, peer’s influence and personal choice

of course and how each of them affect the performance of a student.

What is academic performance?

In this study,we will define performance as the ability to exceed set standards.

A Brief Literary Review

Smith (2010) suggested that some factors students can consider in decision making. Hanson (2011),

coined that a career choice is a decision that affects the rest of a student’s life. As you search for the perfect

school to fulfill your academic dreams, take time to meet with college administrators and professors at each of

your prospective schools.Holland (2012), hinted that individuals are attracted to a given variables career that by

their constitute personalities their and numerous backgrounds.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES

This research paper will be guided by the following objectives:

1. To find out the factors that affect preferring courses so students will be ready on their goals

2. To determine the courses that should to prefer of an student.

Hypothesis

1. There is no significant relationship between socio-demographic profile of the respondents and their course

preferences.

2. There is no significant relationship between the factors and the respondents’ course preference.

3. There is no significant relationship between the factors and the demographic profile of the respondents.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research Design

The method that the researcher used is the descriptive method. It is design to provide the research information

about what is happening in the future. The study is about the "FACTORS AFFECTING THE PREFERENCE IN
CHOOSING COLLEGE ARTS AND HUMANITIES COURSES OF GRADE 12(HUMSS)OF GOOD

SHEPHERD ACADEMY", the researcher aim to find out the factors that affect a student in decision making

through the use of interview and questionnaire. The researcher used survey method to fairly select their

respondent.

Population of the Study

The study was handled within the premises of Good Shepherd Academy. The respondent of the study were the

HUMSS grade 12 of Good Shepherd Academy for the school year 2020-2021. The HUMSS - grade 12 students are

students who answered the questionnaire.

Date Collection

Firstly, the researchers write a letter of approval addressed to the Principal- Ms. Lolinie Ibon and to class adviser

of HUMSS grade 12 - Ms. Lourine Lacerna and Ms.Cristle Joy Catibog. The researchers do the interview to their

respondent to be use as basis to their questionnaire. The questionnaire is composed of four topics; parents decision,

personal decision or the interest, economic demand or job opportunity, and peers’ influence; in order for the researchers

to know which factor effects the students’ course preferences.

Timeline

The project is expected to be completed in 15weeks with the following as the timeline for each part of the project:

 Introduction and literary review:4weeks

 Research methodology:5weeks

 Data analysis,data interpretation and presentation:3weeks

 Summary,conclusion and recommendation:2weeks

 Polishing up the work for submission:1week
