A Balanced Diet
Eating a balanced diet is important for everyone to stay
healthy. A ‘balanced’ meal is food that has nutritional content and
is taken moderately. Each person’s nutritional intake varies,
depending on the gender, age, capacity and other daily activities.
Balanced food contains nutrients such as carbohydrates,
protein, vitamins, minerals, fat and fibre.
Examples of food source of carbohydrates are rice, noodles,
bread, pasta, buns, crackers, sweet potatoes and cereals. Eat one of
these at every meal.
Do not eat too much sugar like rock sugar, syrup, honey, cakes
and sweets because they can cause diabetes and obesity.

3
Fat is a source of energy for the body. Excessive fat causes
obesity and other health problems.
Protein enables body growth. Protein is found in fish, chicken,
meat, eggs, milk, tofu and nuts.
Vitamins and minerals in vegetables and fruits protect the
body from illnesses.
Fibre helps keep our digestive system healthy. Fibre is found
in whole wheat bread, fruits, fresh vegetables, beans and tofu.
Excessive eating patterns cause diseases such as stroke,
diabetes, heart disease and others. We should cut down on fatty
food, sugar and salt. We should also eat balanced meals and do more
physical activities.
