Bermuda Ballin’: Onigiri

A. SKETCH OF THE PRODUCT

(Rough Sketch)

(Virtual Sketch)
B. 4M’s OF OPERATION

MANPOWER:

There are only five (5) persons in the group who manage the overall operation of the
business. Each person has their duties and responsibilities to do for the business to
prosper. Katrina Camille Molato will be assigned to make and pack the onigiris.
Emhan Ascueta will be assigned to take the orders of the customers. On the other
hand, Bianca Nicole Vicente will check the details of the customers' orders. The
handling of finances will be under the supervision of Gabriella Ann Cristobal.
Finally, Jasmine Claire Divine Gingoyon will be responsible for delivering the goods.

METHOD:

Just-in-time production system is employed as the method of production of the

group to produce heterogeneous products which are the onigiris. This mode of
production minimizes the time, labor, and materials in a manufacturing process.

MACHINE:

The following were the machines used in the operation of the business:

- Rice cooker
- Onigiri shaper

MATERIALS:

- Rice
- Sesame seeds
- Vinegar
- Salt
- Sugar
- Tuna
- Mayonnaise
- Seaweed laver
PROCEDURE:

1. Prepare your cooked rice into a nice mixing bowl. Add the vinegar, sesame seeds,
salt, and a pinch of sugar to the rice. Then, mix through evenly.

2. Place a portion of seasoned rice in your hands and place the tuna and
mayonnaise inside. (Note: One should wear a pair of gloves when preparing
food.)
3. Then after placing the fillings, fold the rice over and start to press and squeeze
the rice into a triangular shape.
4. The last step is to place a slice of nori on the bottom of the onigiri and fold it up
towards the middle of the onigiri.

5. Done!
C. FEEDBACKS

15 people were chosen to participate as evaluators of the prototype of the product.

Meanwhile, the group created a survey form using Google Forms to collect their
feedbacks about the overall quality, presentation, and taste of the onigiri. After then,
the group will analyze and use their feedbacks for further revisions of the product.

D. REVISIONS

After gathering feedback from the consumers, several revisions were taken into
consideration. Onigiri is an all-in-one meal as a snack, but many people find it hard to
consume. Since onigiri is a snack on the go, many consumers stated that it was messy
to eat while working because of its oiliness. It also falls apart when biting down;
hence, people cannot consider it a snack in the workplace.
These issues can be solved if the packaging was improved. Plastic packaging similar
to Japanese onigiri in Japan convenience stores can be adapted to prevent breaking
down when eating and getting oil on one's hands. Wax paper sheets or PP-coated
paper sheets can also be used to wrap the onigiri to reduce the use of plastic waste.
This packaging will also stop it from getting soggy and drying out after being stocked
for a while since consumers should eat the onigiri right away.

A different type of rice can also be used, like small or medium-grain rice, to have that
stickiness that will keep the onigiri from falling apart. However, these types of rice can
be pricey compared to a normal one. A wide variety of fillings are also taken into
account to give the consumer freedom to choose and explore. Since eating the same
flavor repeatedly, it may get bland after a while.

Overall, this onigiri can still be improved before mass producing it and offering it in
the market. These revisions will be taken into account and analyzed to give the
consumer the best version of the product.
