1. PANELED DOOR
1.1. Definition
🠊 A door having a framework of stiles, rails, and sometimes muntins, filled with panels of a thinner material.
🠊 The panel door is also known as stile and rail door.
🠊 The panel can be made of plywood, blockboard, veneer, glass, wood, and etc.
🠊 It is strong and gives a better appearance, and is commonly used for exterior doors.

1.2.1. Rail
🠊 Any various horizontal members framing panels, as in a system of paneling, a paneled door,
window sash, or chest of drawers.
a. Top Rail

b. Frieze Rail

d. Bottom Rail
🠊 The lowest rail connects the stiles of a paneled door or window sash.
1.2.2. Muntin/ Mullions
🠊 A stile within the door frame.
1.2.3. Panel
🠊 A distinct section or division of a wall, ceiling, or door, recessed below or raised above the general
level or enclosed by a frame.
1.2.4. Stile
🠊 Any various upright members framing panels, as in a system of paneling, a paneled door, window
sash, or chest of drawers.
a. Hinge Stile
🠊 The stile of a door by which it is hung. Also called hanging stile.
b. Lock Stile
🠊 The stile of a door that closes against the frame of the opening. Also called shutting stile.
c. Meeting Stile
🠊 One of the abutting stiles in a pair of double doors.
1.3. Types
a. Single Panel Doors
🠊 The frame of single panel doors consists of two (2) stiles top and bottom rails.
b. Two Panel Doors
🠊 These doors consist of two wooden panels with an additional middle rail or stile that divides the
frame into two (2) parts.
c. Three Panel Doors
🠊 This door consists of three (3) wooden panels which include two (2) middle rails or stiles.
d. Four Panel Doors
🠊 The four (4) panel doors consist of 4 rectangular panels with two (2) longer panels above a
horizontal middle rail and the two (2) smaller panels below.
e. Six Panel Doors
🠊 Six (6) panel doors consist of six wooden panels including three (3) middle stiles and four (4) rails
dividing the frame into six (6) parts of the same thickness.

1.4. Advantages
🠊 Panel doors are hard and strong so they are used as exterior doors.
🠊 It typically requires less maintenance.
🠊 Can be finished with paint or polish.
🠊 Provide privacy in homes as more soundproof.
1.5. Disadvantages
🠊 Solid panel doors are costly.
🠊 They need more daily cleaning as dust retains more on the door as compared to flush doors.
2. FRENCH DOOR
2.1. Definition
🠊 A door has rectangular glass panes extending throughout its length and is often hung in pairs. Also called
casement door.

b. Frieze Rail

3. LOUVERED DOOR
3.1. Definition
🠊 A door that has a louvered opening for the passage or circulation of air. Also called a blind door. They are
used for latrines and bathrooms of public and residential buildings or cabinets, wardrobes, bathrooms, utility
rooms, and etc.
3.2. Components
3.2.1. Vision Light
🠊 A small light in the upper portion of a door glazed with clear for viewing.
3.3. Types
a. Wooden Louvre Door
🠊 This door comes with wooden slats and is often used for closets and interiors.

3.4. Advantages
🠊 The main advantage of this door is that even when it is closed it will admit light, air and keep up the privacy
of the room.
🠊 Louver doors accomplish with a considerably lower price tag than other doors.
🠊 Can be used as a room divider.
3.5. Disadvantages
🠊 The main disadvantage of the louvered door is maintenance. There are additional ridges and hard-to-reach
places on a louvered door than a horizontal panel door and this can produce cleaning challenges.
4. COMBINATION DOOR
4.1. Definition
🠊 An exterior door that has a frame into which different types of panels can be inserted, as a screen for
summer or a storm sash for winter.
4.2. Types
4.2.1. Storm Door
🠊 An outer or supplementary door, usually glazed, for protecting an entrance door from drafts, driving
rain or severe weather.
a. Hinge Rail
🠊 Hinges are usually welded into a long metal piece that runs along with the vertical length of
the door.
b. Latch Rail
🠊 On the opposite side of the hinge rail, the latch rail goes on the side of the storm door which
has the handle. It typically has a cutout where the handle latch can extend into an area that is
usually covered with a strike plate.

c. Drip Cap
🠊 The top frame of the door is known as a drip cap. It has a small channel that can catch any
dripping water above.
d. Frame Extenders
🠊 Sometimes a hinge or latch rail might not extend all the way down. Frame extenders are
plastic piece that goes at the bottom of the rails so it will be full length.
Screen Door
4.3. Advantages
🠊 The glass panels protect the front door and home from damage when bad weather strikes.
🠊 Installing such doors will improve the lighting of the spaces, by reflecting more natural light.
4.4. Disadvantages
🠊 Having two (2) doors can be inconvenient, making it harder to get in and out of the house.
🠊 Heat build up, the glass panels trap heat and can damage to a front door with prolonged sun exposure.

5. GLASS DOOR
5.1. Definition
🠊 A door of heat-strengthened or tempered glass, with or without rails or stiles, is used primarily as an
entrance door.
5.2. Types

5.3. Advantages
🠊 Doors opening to the exterior let in natural light, while interior one, allows light to pass from one room to
another
🠊 Easy to clean and incredibly durable
🠊 Doesn’t corrode or rust
5.4. Disadvantages
🠊 Glass doors cost more than other types of doors.
🠊 Since it allows natural light to pass through the house it will cause heat and a tendency to spend for
insulations.
6. DUTCH DOOR
6.1. Definition
🠊 A door is divided horizontally so that the upper or lower part can be opened or closed separately.
6.2. Advantages
🠊 Dutch doors are functional, the bottom half can be closed to keep the children or pets indoors and safe.
6.3. Disadvantages
🠊 Though the two halves are sealed and weather-stripped, outside air still can leak through.
🠊 Dutch doors are more expensive than standard doors because it requires more hardware, such as hinge,
knobs, and locks.

7. BATTEN DOOR
7.1. Definition
🠊 A door constructed of vertical boards is held together by horizontal battens and diagonal bracing.
Battened and Ledged Battened, Ledged, Braced Battened, Ledged, Braced, Framed
7.2. Types
7.2.1. Battend and Ledged Door
🠊 The simplest form of door is commonly used for openings. It is consists of a series of vertical
battens usually tongued and grooved and fixed together with horizontal battens known as ledges.
The door is hung on the frame by iron hinges.
7.2.2. Battened, Ledged, Braced Door
🠊 An improved form of battened and ledged door. Wherein, additional members are provided in the
form of inclined braces between the ledges. The braces are normally housed and not tenoned into
the ledges. In this position, they act as struts and provide increased rigidity and strength to the
door.
7.2.3. Battened, Ledged, Braced, Framed Door
🠊 It is considered superior in strength, durability, and appearance to other doors. The framework of
this type of door consists of stiles, ledges, and braces. The rails are positioned near the top,
middle, and bottom of the shutter and are morticed and tenoned into the stiles.
7.3. Advantages
🠊 The door is reinforced with a combination of planks that are much more sturdy than a normal wooden door.
🠊 It is made from inexpensive softwood, making it cost lesser than other doors.
7.4. Disadvantages
🠊 Inconsistent design, each face of the door has a different appearance and style.
