Introduction
There are more than 2.2 billion children in the world who constitute approximately 28%
of the world's population. Those aged between 10 to 19 years make up 16 % of the
world's population (UNICEF, 2019). COVID-19 has impacted the lives of people around the
world including children and adolescents in an unprecedented manner. Throughout the
world, essential modus of prevention from COVID- 19 infection has been isolation and
social distancing strategies to protect from the risk of infection ( Shen et al., 2020). On these
grounds, since January, 2020, various countries started implementing regional and
national containment measures or lockdowns. In this backdrop one of the principal
measures taken during lockdown has been closure of schools, educational institutes
and activity areas. These inexorable circumstances which are beyond normal
experience, lead to stress, anxiety and a feeling of helplessness in all.
It has been indicated that compared to adults, this pandemic may continue to have
increased long term adverse consequences on children and adolescents ( Shen et al., 2020).
The nature and extent of impact on this age group depend on many vulnerability factors
such as the developmental age, current educational status, having special needs, pre-
existing mental health condition, being economically under privileged and child/ parent
being quarantined due to infection or fear of infection. The following sections discuss
about findings of studies on mental-health aspects of children and adolescents
impacted by COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns being implemented at national or
regional levels to prevent further spread of infection.
Seeing as lockdown measures have been so strict in the Philippines, children have not
been able to go to school. They were closed in March of last year, but then in June
2020, officials stated that kids would only return to school when a vaccine was
available.
There has now been a school shutdown lasting over a year, which certainly has brought
a new set of challenges to many children, parents and teachers. While the education
secretary announced that distance learning methods must be implemented, many
Filipinos don’t have access to computers or good internet, making this difficult.
Summary
Conclusion
The pandemic has become a worldwide burden for all of us. This virus causes drastic
changes in the economy, health, education, and our daily life. Our researcher's
assistance in developing a vaccination may enhance our confidence in our ability to
conquer our mental and psychological conditions.
The internet and technology play an important part in allowing students like me to
continue our studies. Those who have devices can also continue their studies because
of self-study modules.
Transportation and work are currently running well thanks to the operators' and
company's innovation in employing social distancing by wearing facemasks and face
shields to prevent illnesses and virus spread.
By properly implementing the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of
Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), we can help our governance and community
shorten or eliminate this pandemic.
The positive outcome of this is that the pollution in this state has decreased significantly
in a short period of time, which has had a significant impact on our ecosystem. The
reduction of various crimes such as personal crime, property crime, and statutory
offenses through the use of lockdown has the drawback of a lack of financial assistance
for the family due to limited cash. The government has a remedy for that problem: the
"ayuda" program, which will meet each family's needs temporarily, and the help of
vaccine we can go back normal to our daily life but we need to wear a facemask to
assure to prevent infections. The face-to-face class may continue to evolve in order to
better teach students.
For me, I recommend a face-to-face class because some students are unable to teach
their professors or teachers due to a lack of devices or gadgets to participate in an
online class, and the modules are not helpful for students without the teacher's other
knowledge and explanation. One of the groups affected is elementary and middle
school students who lack understanding for topics such as math solutions. I hope that
this pandemic will come to an end and that face-to-face learning can continue.
