Dear Hiring Manager,
It is with great interest that I submit my application for the Mechanical Engineering Intern
position at Imperial Oil. I am currently a 3rd year Mechanical Engineering student at University of
Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). Throughout the program, I have gained tremendous amount of
knowledge and hands-on experience in different aspects of engineering such as being able to work
individually and in a team-oriented environment, while managing my time to meet deadlines. Most
importantly, I have gained much more passion for engineering and the importance of safety as an
engineer. The program also helped me improve my multitasking abilities, which is a very essential trait
in the engineering industry. I firmly believe that the skills and experience I have gained here at UOIT
will add value to this position and ultimately your organization.
I have also gained valuable knowledge to operate many different computer software programs
such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks and Microsoft Office products. In addition, I have led group projects in
which these software programs were being employed to either model a prototype, perform calculations,
or put together a presentation. I also took part in design contests where I acquired hands-on experience
related to the design industry by using my creativity in a number of software’s such as AutoCAD, NX,
SolidWorks etc. One of the assigned projects consisted of designing a concept model of a commercial
building on AutoCAD software, and using hands-on experience to construct its prototype. During this
project, I was required to think outside the box many times in order to tackle complex problems. With
these skills, I believe that I would be a perfect candidate for the position.
Besides my role in engineering, I am a huge advocate for workplace safety policies. By
working for different companies over the years, I have developed a value for safe environment to keep
myself and those around me, safe. Working at Home Depot has further sharpened my sense of safety as
they educated and trained me to follow safety health regulations on a daily basis to ensure safety for not
only myself but also for the customers and coworkers around me. I always begin my day by checking
off basic safety parameters such as making sure fire exits are clear, wearing safety shoes, proper gloves
and eye protection when using machinery to cut something. I am also familiar with the OIMS safety
policies used at Imperial oil to prevent risks and injuries. I believe that this work experience will add to
the contributions I will provide at making Imperial Oil a safer place. As an ambitious and capable
individual, I am always willing to learn and gain more knowledge.
I would highly appreciate the opportunity to join an esteemed and reputable company such as
yours. Thank you for considering my application and I look forward to further discuss my
qualifications in person.
Sincerely,

Muhammad Tabish
