TYPES OF SENTENCES
There are three types of sentences.
1. Simple Sentence
A sentence which has only one subject and one predicate is called a simple sentence.
It cannot have more than one finite verb.
E.g. He is too weak to walk.

2. Compound Sentence
A compound sentence consists of two or more co-ordinate clauses joined together
by co-ordinating conjunctions.
E.g. I came back because I was tired.

3. Complex Sentence
A sentence which consists of a principle clause and a sub ordinate clause/clauses is
called a complex sentence. The clauses are joined by subordinating conjunctions
E.g. We returned when the sun had set.

1. Write a composition on the topic given below.


You had spent your holiday at a hill station, with your family. Describe your journey
to the place and how you spent your holiday.

2. Grammar Assignment
Rewrite the sentences as directed in the brackets:
a. He is too dull to understand this speech. (Remove 'too')
b. The hooligan was threatening me. (Change into passive voice)
c. Anurag is more handsome than Soumya. (Change into Positive Degree)
d. The experience can never be forgotten. (Change into Interrogative Sentence)
e. The picture is very beautiful. (Change into Exclamatory)
f. As soon as Riju came, the performance began. (Rewrite using: "No sooner…..")
g. Unless you operate the tumour, it will not heal. (Rewrite with: If)
h. Dhruba is so talented that he will surely pass the examination. (Rewrite using:
'too')
i. Let the song be played. (Change into Active voice)
j. No other person is as kind as you. (Change into Superlative degree)
