EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

In challenging and diverse classrooms, teachers are expected to cater the needs of all students
regardless of their strengths and weaknesses. Thus, the ultimate goal of many schools is to create a
classroom that has the least restrictive environment to meet the needs of all students, including these with
special needs. However, many teachers were not taught how to teach Leaners with Difficulty in Hearing
(LDH).
Consequently, the purpose of this study is to identify the different classroom practices of Receiving
Teachers of Brooke’s Point Central School as reference for future use of other regular teachers in a
mainstream classroom. This study also answered: What are the problems they encountered and their
needs in handling LDH so as to create a training design for them? Data to answer this research question
was collected through a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview of eleven Receiving Teachers who
are purposively selected.
Using descriptive method of research, results show that Receiving Teachers can make Learners with
Difficulty in Hearing achieve their full potentials, if they are knowledgeable of a variety of modifications
and accommodations as well as the Basic Sign Language and the Individualized Education Plan. To
address this, the study suggest the adaptation and implementation of the training design for Receiving
Teachers handling Learners with Difficulty in Hearing.

Key words: learners with difficulty in hearing, receiving teachers, classroom practices, training design
