Do Go Play

Play
Play is used with sports that have teams, rules and competitions:
Badminton, baseball, football, golf, rugby and tennis are some examples.
I have been playing tennis for over ten years.
When I was young we played football just outside our house in the street
Go
Go is used with activities where the activity is in the -ing form.
To camp – go camping
We went camping by the lake last summer.
Other activities that take 'go' are: dancing, jogging, running, hiking, riding, swimming,
cycling, climbing etc.

Do
For all other recreational activities we use do. Aerobics, athletics, gymnastics, judo, karate
and yoga are some examples.
All young children should be encouraged to do gymnastics.

What is the most popular free time activity in your group?
Free-time activities are very important to me. because it is a good way for me to let off
steam and relieve stress by taking it easy after studying for a longer period of time. because I
find it great to keep fit and improve physical health. also, it refreshes me and make me more
energetic. Sport not only makes me stronger but also connects me with my friends who have
the same hobbies. I often play some outdoor sports with us in the park. such as badminton
or jogging...

If the weather is not fine enough for me to hang out with my friends, I like to read books. I
have a big bookshelf with many kinds of books but I prefer detective books.

to be honest, watching sport is really my cup of tea because I find it so
interested. It's really great to watch football and have a snack after a tiring day
of work. it also helps me wind down and gives me energy. Soccer is one of
those sports that are fun to watch with other friends and family members. I used
to watch a soccer match with more than 10 of my relatives in a tiny room.
football unite me with most of my family members on a weekly basis, and that
was enough for me to love watching soccer and enjoy it. football doesn’t only
bring me close to relatives who love football, but also to strangers whom I’ve
never met before.

Summer is coming. so, I would like to try some water sports. especially, I really want to try
windsurfing. I think the reason is I find it very exciting and it was an adventure sport. besides
that, I like to feel like I master the natural power of the ocean when I surfing.
FOCUS ON SPEAKING PART 1: INTERVIEW
Try talking about health and fitness as if you were doing Speaking Part 1. If you are working with a
partner, take it in turns to play the roles of examiner and candidate. Here are some typical questions:

• What do you do to keep fit?


I often paly some sport to keep fit. I find it great to keep fit and improve physical health.
my favourite sport is badminton. I often play it when we have free time. playing badminton
is just about two hours a day but I feel full of beans for the entire day. Sport not only makes

I think it was before this epidemic happened. Because I often exercise with my friends
at the park, when the epidemic broke out again, we couldn't go to the park anymore. I
hope this epidemic will pass quickly because of travel restrictions so I just stay at
home. I feel extremely stuffy and uncomfortable.
• Are you an active person in your free time? What sort of thing do you do?

• Do you have any unhealthy habits?


There is a dozen of times that my parents warn me about my bad habit which is using mobile
phone before going to bed. It is the fact that using smart phone is really harmful to eyes in
particular and to health in general. Specially, using mobile phone before sleep makes me
sleepless because my brain becomes active and can't rest. As the result, I always wake up
late in the morning and my eyesight becomes worse. I know I should stop this situation, so I
ask myself to use it just one hour in the evening and 2 hours before sleeping, I won't take it
at all. I have followed this way for a while and I find it better that I can fall asleep easier.

In the second part of the Speaking Module, you are given some background information of a
particular situation and one issue. Then, there are three options provided and you have to
discuss these with the examiner and select the best alternative.

PRACTICE
In the third part of the Speaking Module, the candidate is given a topic with supporting
details in form of a mind-map. Each supporting detail is often given in form of a noun or
noun phrase. The candidate then has to develop the topic on the basis of provided ideas and
also add one more idea related to the topic.
