Build It!

Build It! Is a fun, open-ended, academic center that integrates math,


speaking, and writing objectives.
Directions:
1. Fill 10 baggies with between 10 and 20 building bricks each, label each bag with
numbers 1 - 10.
2. Copy recording sheets.

Students choose a bag to count the quantity, create, tell,


and record with their drawing and writing.
This center can be easily changed by changing out bags with interesting bits and parts.

Kids and building bricks just go together! Fun, imagination, creativity and
critical thinking skills as well as alignment to the standards!
Math:
K.CC.1 Count to 100 by ones and by tens.
K.CC.3 Write numbers from 0 - 20.
K.CC.4 Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities.
K.CC.5 Count to answer how many?
K.G.1 Describe objects in the environment using names of shapes and
describe relative positions.
Speaking:
K.SL.4 Describe familiar people, places and things, with prompting and
support provide additional detail.
Writing:
K.W.2 Use a combination of writing and drawing to compose explanatory text,
supplying information about the topic.
