Procedure:

1. Identifying TB Suspects involves assessing employee/student signs and symptoms of Pulmonary

Tuberculosis when they consult at Health Services. Recommendation for Chest X-ray from the
University Physician will be required.
2. For employees, periodic annual medical examinations shall be conducted which will include the Chest
X-ray Examination.

For students with requirements for medical examination, a Chest X-ray should be done. Making a
diagnosis of PTB among identified employees/students as TB suspects involves referral for a diagnostic
test. The primary diagnostic test to confirm the most infectious form of PTB is sputum smear
microscopy; chest X-ray is also important and will often detect TB.

3. Health Services through the University Physician and Nurses will adopt the Directly Observed
Treatment Service (DOTS) strategy in the management of employees and students with tuberculosis.
Cases of TB among employees/students should be classified to ensure that correct treatment is
administered.

4. Health Services Staff will refer employees and students to a private or public Directly Observed
Treatment Service (DOTS) Center.
5. Health Services will provide access to Social Security System and Employees Compensation benefits
under PD 626 to an employee who acquired TB infection in the performance of his/her duty.
6. Health Services will inform students of the medical management of the disease.
