Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in

Understanding Society, Culture, and Politics

I. Objectives:
After the end of the lesson, the students were able to:
A. Differentiate the different types of family through brainstorming;
B. Explain the functions of the family as a basic unit of a society; and,
C. Appraise the importance of family as a social institution.

II. Content:
1. Topic: Cultural, social, and political institutions
 Family: definition
 Functions of family
 Different types of family
2. Materials:
 Powerpoint Presentation (PPT)
 Laptop
 Pictures
3. Reference:
 Understanding Society, Culture, and Politics by Atienza, pp: 103-108

III. Procedure:
1. Daily Routine
 Prayer
 Checking of attendance
 Classroom attentiveness
2. Recall/Review of the past lesson
 The teacher will let the students recall and differentiate primary group into secondary
groups to see if they recall the lesson last meeting.
3. Motivation:
The teacher will show 4
sets of pictures with 1
jumbled word projected in
the screen. The students
will guess the essence of it
to introduce into a new
lesson.

4. Lesson Proper
 The teacher will introduce the definition of the word “family”.
 The teacher will also discuss the functions of the family as a basic unit of a society and
will integrate it in our current situation now.
 The teacher will also discuss the different types of family with follow up questions.
 In every discussion, the teacher will pop-up random questions to see if the students are
attentively listening/to recall if they really get it.
5. Generalization
 The teacher will leave one question for the students to be answered to generalize the
importance of the family as a social institution. “What is the importance of the family as
a social institution?”

IV. Evaluation:
The students will get 1 whole sheet of paper. After answering, they will take a picture of their paper
and send it to the teacher on private chat via zoom.
Direction: Answer the following questions. Each question had a corresponding point.
1. Why is the family considered as the basic unit of the society? (5 pts.)
2. Refer to the functions of the family: choose 1 and explain the importance of it. (5 pts.)
3. Create a chart showing the types of family according to organization, lineage, residence, and
degree of authority. (15 pts.)

V. Assignment:
Direction: Make a study of the family practices in your community. How was the impact of culture affected
the family practices in your community?
