21st CENTURY LITERATURE FROM THE PHILIPPINES AND THE WORLD

SEPTEMBER 26, 2023 (TUESDAY)

I. OBJECTIVE
Compare and contrast the various 21st century literary genres and the ones
from the earlier genres/periods citing their elements, structures, and
traditions (EN12Lit-Id-25)
Subtask: Compare and contrast Confession Files as a 21 st century literary
genre from earlier/contemporary nonfiction.

KBI: Appreciate the various works of 21st century literary writers.

C. Annotation: In this part of the lesson, learners may exhibit prestructural stage in the trivia
part for they may not have an idea that they can be 21 st century literary writer, (if they are
not yet) which is one of the 5 stages of the SOLO Taxonomy.

Lesson Proper

1. Activity (Group)
Directions: The class will be divided into three (3) groups. Each group
will do the following after reading the given text:

Group 1: Pick a soundtrack that would best fit o the theme of the
given text and sing it in class. (Acapella will do.)
Group 2: Illustrate the characters and setting of the text through a
tableau. (Note: All members must have a part of the tableau.)
Group 3: Share your thoughts on the literary tradition of the given
text through a trivia.

Annotation: This activity adheres to the fourth objection on the application of a


range of teaching strategies to develop critical and creative thinking, as well as other
higher-order thinking skills. In this activity, learners exercise their critical, creative,
and analytical skills in identifying the literary elements, structures, and traditions of
Confession Files and presenting them to the class. Here, learners may have move
from prestructural to unistructural stage. Acquiring knowledge in this activity is done
through the application of the progressivist’s philosophy where learners’ tasks are
differentiated.

2. Analysis
 What genre of literature is the given text?
 What is its structure?
 What are its unique elements?
 What is its literary tradition/s?

Annotation: In this part of the lesson, learners must recall what a literary element,
structure and tradition is and identify these components of a literary text from the
given selection. They may have entered the third stage of learning (Multistructural)
and consequently to the Relational Stage where they get to explain how the parts of a
text may help in understanding the entirety of the text.

Here, learners need to focus on the different components of a literary piece that are
essential in understanding the overall meaning of the text (Essentialism). At the same
time, learners may also be confronted with their literacy skills (Objective 2).

3. Abstraction
 After learning that a Confession Files is a 21 st century literary
genre, what have you realized?
 How will you use today’s technology effectively?
 How can this genre of literature help its writers and readers?
Annotation: This part of the lesson would also ask HOTS-SOLO questions. Here, a
deeper qualitative understanding of the topic is needed for them to view the topic
from several perspectives, to have a sophisticated understanding of the topic and
apply their understanding in various contexts.

4. Application (Group)
Directions: Form a group with 3 members. Using an H-Diagram,
determine the similarities and differences between Confession Files as
a 21st century literary genre from earlier/contemporary nonfiction.

IV. EVALUATION (3 items)


1. It is the collection of stories from different people where they admit
something that they are embarrassed to admit or that they do not often
share or tell people. Usually, they use code names or alias to conceal
their identity.
2. Where can readers read Confession Files? Give at least one.
3. What point of view was used in Confession Files?

I cant help but compare my husband to others , not because I want to insult him
but to make him realize how a husband should act .

Tinuod jud diay nga ang tinuod nga batasan makita ug mag ipon namo labi na ug
naay anak . Di nako malikayan e kompara siya sa uban bana basin diay one day
marealize niya nga "dapat ing ani diay akong buhaton because its my responsibility
and this is what I should do as a father and husband" but instead, he would say "
edi didto ka saila"

He was a caring boyfriend, but not as husband.

He used to ask how's my day , but not anymore when we had our son.

He used to bring food at my workplace, but now he would make me wait until night
before I could eat my lunch .

He used to help me with all the House chores, but now he thinks hayahay ko
because I’m just a housewife nga ga hilata ra whole day, without thinking how
tiring it is to take care of our child, while cooking, while washing the dishes, while
moping the floor, while doing the laundry.

While him?

He can afford nga magbilar sige cellphone, pero never nagbilar para lang tabangon
ko moatiman ug bata .

there's one time nga gipa halfday nako sya kay nabughat ko pero ang ending ako
gihapon ga bilar lingaw² sa bata . when I tried to wake him up I heard him saying
"pesti mani nga kinabuhi oy

Another one time nga labad kaayo ako ulo tapos ana ko siya sa duyan² sa bata
then again ana sya unsa mani oy ako pay nagtrabaho nya pag abot diri ako
gihapon atiman sa bata

He can afford to just sleep all day when he's at home , but can't ask if I need a
sleep too

He can afford to go out with his friends, while saying NO ug manghagad ko because
I think we need to unwind and deep talk.

He never ask if I am tired or Do I need a me time .

He never ask what's bothering me

He never ask if I was okay

He never ask if I am happy

I lose weight, and all I can hear from him is

I prayed for him to be my last because I thought the consistency would still there,
but I feel like Im dealing with a different person everyday.

hands-on sakung anak kesa mo trabaho ? yes kabalo ko nga galisud ta financially

Answer Key

Application
The learners’ answers may vary but below are the accurate possible answers that
they may give.

Similarities:
 Both are telling narratives based on real events.
 When it comes to the elements, both genres may have the plot, characters,
setting, may use the same literary devices (flashbacks, foreshadowing,
figurative language, descriptive imagery)
 In terms of structure, both are written in prose.
 Both may use First Person or Third Person Point of View

Differences:
 When it comes to the literary traditions, Confession Files use Social Media
platforms in telling their narratives while Creative Nonfiction may still have
sticked to print media (though many nonfiction works are already available
on the internet.)
 In terms of elements, Confession Files is looser when it comes to the rules in
its elements like in the characterization or the development of the characters
in the narratives.
