Project Name : HITTIN

To : HORIZONS
Subject : Earthing Calculation as per BS7430 . MAIN EARTHING LOOP
Date : Wednesday, December 29, 2021 RV00
Dear Sir,
This is in reference to the above project. Please find below a calculation for Earth Resistance as per BS7430 .
The desired resistance to earth value should be less than or equal to 5 Ω. Please see below the calculation that is used to achieve the same.

1) Soil Resistivity test has been conducted by the contractor. Average value of the readings has been considered.
Notes :
2) Highly recommend to use enhancement material in order to reduce the resistance by 25 -30%.

As per BS 7430:2011+A_1:2015 recommendations, the calculation for resistance to earth is done below using this formula
for

Rr (Ω) = 165.629

1)

Where :
ρ is the resistivity of soil, in ohm metres (Ωm); 500
L is the length of the electrode, in metres (m); 3
d is the diameter of the rod, in metres (m). 0.0172

The resistance Rt in ohms (Ω) of n vertically driven rods set s metres (m) apart
may be calculated from:

Rt = 8.8505 Ω

6.19535
2)
Where :
ρ is the resistivity of soil, in ohm metres (Ωm); 500 Where :
L is the length of rod, in metres (m); 3
n is the number of rods; 20
s is the spacing between rods, in metres (m); (m). 36
λ is a group factor 5.146022
d is the diameter of the rod, in metres (m) 0.0172
Three rods at the vertices of an equilateral triangle :

Re = 72.87
Re for 6 12.14
triangle =

3)
Where :
ρ is the resistivity of soil, in ohm metres (Ωm); 500
L is the length of rod, in metres (m); 3
d is the diameter of rod, in metres (m); 0.0172
s is the length of one side of the equilateral triangle, in metres (m). 3
n Number of rods 3

The resistance Rta in ohms (Ω) of a strip or round conductor may be calculated
from:

Rta = 2.25 Ω

4) Where :
ρ is the resistivity of soil, in ohm metres (Ωm); 500
L is the length of the strip or conductor, in metres (m); 602
h is the depth of the electrode, in metres (m); 0.6

d is the width of the strip or the diameter of the round conductor, in metres (m); 0.014 120mm2 cable

k has the value 1.36 for strip or 1.83 for round conductor 1.83

The Total Parallel Resistance :

5)
1/Rtotal = 1/Rt +1/Re+1/ Rta Rtotal = 1.56 Ω

It is important to note that the soil characteristics vary from each other from one location to another on the same site. Actual resistivity calculation should be under taken
on different locations on site in order to verify the calculation after installation of Earth Rods. Also the achieved resistance is based on assumptions of regular maintenance
of the earthing system as per the BS EN 62305 standard ensuring that the loop conductor is not broken or disconnected at any point within the network. We hope the
above is in line with the requirement and should you need any clarification, please do contact us.

Thanks & regards,
