a) Discuss the primary features and characteristics of a product or a service that

Assignment 2: Due Date: Dec. 6, 2020

a) Quality assurance is the backbone of any company adhering total quality management to
provide high quality product and output. As construction manager of the company,
prepare a quality assurance program a particular portion of the construction activities (eg.,
concreting works, rebar works, etc.). Draw a diagram or flow chart including the possible
quality assurance checklist of the construction process (select only one trade or works).

b) Discuss briefly the importance of ISO in the construction process. Cite some standards
that are widely used in the construction.

c) As a construction manager, prepare your own performance audit program for a


construction project (eg.,building, roads, bridges).

Assignment 3: (Due Date: Jan 17, 2021)

a) Cost of quality is the total price of all efforts to achieve product or service quality.
This includes all work to build a product or service that conforms to the
requirements as well as work resulting from nonconformance to the requirements.
Project managers need knowledge of the statistical concepts, practices and
procedures used in building assemblies, components and parts to ensure that
second tier project or providers are meeting the requirements of the customer.
Although project managers may not have a general understanding of the practices
and procedures used to meet project standards. (i) discuss the quality control tools
being prevalent throughout business industry as a tool for a decision making, (ii)
among the quality control tools, discuss the best fitted tools in the construction and
cite examples base from your experience.

b) If you are the general contractor, how you will identify the non conformances of
the subcontractors through various situations and at various levels throughout the
duration of the project. Cite an example and what are the corrective action to take
in order to prevent or minimize their recurrence.
c) In ensuring quality in the construction, 3audit is art and parcel to comply the results
with the planned targets. It is used to verify and identify whether the company
operates according to planned methods and checks the effectiveness of the system

a) Total quality management as a philosophy involves the elements of continuous


improvement, a people orientation, quantitative methods, and a focus on
customer satisfaction. Discuss the importance of TQM in implementing any
construction projects.

b) Does your organization have in place a company quality teams? If yes, Do the
teams focus on long term quality issues or on day to day problems? If no, what
are the necessary steps you will do to encourage to implement the quality
teams?

c) Make a list of areas in which you would be especially careful in operating the
controls on your projects. Expand on any areas of your project which you think
are particularly critical. Are there any areas in operating the controls where you
have had problems in the past? How will you try to improve in those areas?
