1.0 Purpose:

1.1 To set standards for the Personal Protective Equipment required to be used in a certain area
or job responsibility, to ensure safety of workers’ lives, protect limbs & sensitive parts of the
body.
1.2 To define PPE specifications that will serve as guidelines for the type of personal protective
equipment to be purchased and used.

2.0 Scope:

1.3 This specification is applicable to any Treasure Island Industrial Corporation employees
exposed to surrounding health and safety risks at work.
1.4 The PPEs covered in this specification are the following
 Face Protection
 Ear Protection
 Respiratory Protection
 Body Protection
 Arm Protection
 Hand Protection
 Foot Protection
 Eye Protection
 Head Protection

4.0 Definition of Terms

PPE – Personal Protective Equipment

5.0 Responsibility

Department heads and Supervisors are responsible for strictly implementing this policy within
their areas. Ensure that all personnel fully comply with the required controls when applicable.
Specific responsibilities include:
 Initiate stock requisitions for the PPEs required in areas under their jurisdiction and ensure
stocks are available at all times.
 Prepares yearly budget for PPE and ensure that everyone; direct hires, agency & contract
employees in the department is provided with the required PPEs.
 In conjunction with EHSS, conducts hazard assessment in their areas to determine presence
of physical hazards which necessitate the use of PPE.
 Impose disciplinary action to the subordinate who fail to meet the specified requirements.
 Notifies EHS department when new hazards are introduced or when process are added or
changed.

All TIIC employees/associates are responsible for complying with the requirements stated in this
policy. Specific responsibilities include:
 Desist from working in a station when no PPE is available or if his/her PPE is already
impaired or damaged.
 Working on a certain process, equipment, or area where PPE is required. If an individual is
caught not wearing the required PPE, disciplinary action shall be meted to the individual
concerned. Contractors/agency/vendors/suppliers/visitors likewise have to comply with the
PPE requirements as necessary for the job performed.
 Attends to the required PPE Seminar/training sessions.
 Cares for, cleans and maintains the PPE issued.
 Informs supervisor the need to replace or provide PPE.

Environment, Health & Safety department is responsible for the development and administration
of this PPE policy. Specific responsibility includes:

 Post signage indicating the required PPE to an equipment, specific areas or to a new process.
 Maintains records on the hazard assessments.
 Provides training, guidelines & assistance to supervisors & employees on the proper use,
care and maintenance of the provided PPE.
 Reviewing, updating, and evaluating the overall effectiveness of PPE use, training, and
policies.
 Provide support to the departments when assessing the areas to determine if hazards are
likely present which will require the use of PPE.
 Spot checks and auditing of the department/areas for compliance of the PPE policy.

Purchasing department shall ensure that PPE requested are always available for orders. The Buyer
in charge shall require the supplier to provide annual update on the 3rd party test certificates for the
integrity of the PPEs purchased.

6.2 Replacement Schedules

6.2.1 Replacement of PPEs shall be as needed except for the following:


 Chemical resistant gloves shall be replaced at least once a month.
 For replacement schedules of respirator cartridges and dust masks will be at
least once a month. However, if one has difficulty in breathing and contaminants
odor/taste is encountered, it must be replaced immediately.

6.3 Back Charge

6.3.1 The amount of replacement cost of the item will be deducted to the salary of the
employee. Back charging shall apply on the following conditions:
 Employee is issued for the second time but failed to present the
previously issued PPE that needs replacement.
 Improper use or abuse affecting its integrity causing potential damage to
the PPE. (e.g. wearing the safety shoes like wearing a ‘slipper’ or a
‘sandal’)
 PPEs that were brought home, never returned back and was not
recovered. (e.g. safety glasses were worn driving a motorcycle on his
way home and misplaced it afterwards)

6.4 Personal Protective Equipment Specifications

6.4.7 Foot Protection

Requirements: Material shall be resistant to solvents, acids, and salts; it shall offer non-
slip protection; it shall withstand 4500 pounds of steady pressure; it shall comply with
ANSI Standards for impact and compression certified by the Bureau of Working
Conditions.

Type 2
Description: Chemical Resistant Boots, Composite toe cap.
Requirements: Made of Neoprene or Butyl rubber which shall be resistant to solvents,
acids, alkalis, and salts with increased traction on slippery surfaces.

Type 3
Description: Closed Shoes
Requirements: Any closed shoes to protect from any foreign objects.

6.4.8 Respiratory Protection


Type 1
Description: Reusable Air Purifying Respirator for Organic Vapors and Acid Gases
(Double Cartridge).
Requirements: It should at least cover half of the face and shall be approved by NIOSH.
Recommended Brand: 3M Half-face Piece Respirator 6200 with 6006 Cartridge.

Type 2
Description: Reusable Air Purifying Respirators for Organic Vapors and Acid Gases
(Single Cartridge).
Requirements: It should at least cover half of the face and shall be approved by NIOSH.
Recommended Brand: 3M Half-face Piece Respirator 3200 with 3011/3391 Cartridge.

Type 3
Description: Light Duty Respirator (Dust Mask)
