CAMP BUCOCO
The March Troop outing had a few twists and turns…mainly on the roads leading to it. Camp
Agawam double booked the campsite so Troop 284 was detoured to Camp Bucoco for the March
outing. At the outing, there was some first aid and fire building skills demonstrated. There was also
a dinner cookoff on this outing. The scouts also tried building a catapult from limbs, lashings, and a
huge rock. It moved and stayed together but could not launch the water bottle more than 7 feet.
Not bad for a first attempt, and boys are planning to rebuild it, bigger and better on a future outing,
so hone those pioneering skills!
The dinner cook-off consisted of AJ’s patrol making burgers on the fire, Zach M’s patrol
making chicken stir fry, and Zach C’s patrol making crab alfredo. The ASMs judged Zach M’s stir fry
as the winning entry. Mr. Corlazzoli roughed it and slept outside both nights in a tent and a sleeping
bag. One of our activities was a capture the knot, which was the patrols running through the woods
tying miscellaneous knot at different points.
