Norwin Reality Tour A true sign of the end of summer is the annual Summer Celebration held at

David H. gave a presentation at the September 5th troop


meeting about pollution in local parks. This was a requirement
for him for rank advancement.

TROOP POSITIONS Explaination for Upcoming Elections Positions


SPL* - James S.
• The senior patrol leader (SPL) is elected by the Scouts to represent them as the
ASPL* – Tommy K. top youth leader in the troop. He runs all troop meetings, events, activities, the
annual program planning conference, and the patrol leaders' council meeting. He
Scribe* – open position appoints other troop youth leaders with the advice and counsel of the Scoutmaster.
• The assistant senior patrol leader (ASPL) is the second highest-ranking youth
Patrol Leaders* leader in the troop. The assistant senior patrol leader acts as the senior patrol leader
Phoenix - Andrew B. in the absence of the senior patrol leader or when called upon. He also provides
leadership to other youth leaders in the troop.

Nuclear Quackers - Cole S. • The scribe keeps the troop records. He records the activities of the patrol leaders’
council and keeps a record of dues, advancement, and Scout attendance at troop
Campfire – Zach M. meetings. He represents his patrol on the patrol leaders’ council and appoints
the assistant patrol leader.
Assistant Patrol Leaders • The patrol leader is the elected leader of his patrol. He represents his patrol on
the patrol leaders’ council.
Phoenix - David H. • The assistant patrol leader leads the patrol in the patrol leader’s absence. He
represents his patrol at patrol leaders’ council meetings when the patrol leader

• The quartermaster keeps track of troop equipment and sees that it is in good
Campfire – Collin G. working order. He keeps records on patrol and troop equipment, makes sure
equipment is in good working condition, and issues equipment and makes sure it is

• The chaplain aide works with the troop chaplain to meet the religious needs of
Webmaster*– Collin G. Scouts in the troop. (Appointed by the SPL)
• The historian preserves troop photographs, news stories, trophies, flags,
Leave no Trace – Louie B. scrapbooks, awards, and other memorabilia. Serving as Historian can apply
towards Positions of Responsibility requirements for Eagle in a Boy Scout Troop.
OA Representative – Tyler S. • The Order of the Arrow Representative is a youth liaison serving between the
local Order of the Arrow (OA) lodge or chapter and his troop
*denotes PLC member • Leave no Trace
• The Webmaster keeps the troop website up to date.

What: Popcorn will be sorted and organize per
submitted scout orders
Order Distribution and Money Collection: Scouts will
distribute individual orders and collect
money.
11/14/17: Popcorn money collection – No
extensions will be granted! One check made Payable
to Boy Scout Troop 284 from each participating scout.
No post-dated checks and no cash please.

The September outing took members of the Troop to Camp


Agawam for a Bug Out. The scouts got to choose to either
build a shelter to sleep in or to sleep in a tent. The fearless
engineers were A.J., Zach C. and Marty who built shelter.
There was hiking done and the boys got to take in the
awesome sites of Slippery Rock Creek. They were amazed by
the size of some of the boulders there. In addition to
building shelter, the guys also earned the Paul Bunyan
Woodsman award, and constructed a monkey bridge from
harvested trees. Quentin earned his Totin’ Chip on this
outing. All this activity was rumored to be fueled by a lunch
of Alpo burritos?! Surviving is not for the timid…
