was an enjoyable and successful trip. For some, this was their
first experience at the Heritage Reservation, and it should’ve
left a good memory for those scouts. We had fun kayaking,
canoeing, and fishing on the lake all day. Fish were aplenty,
giving everyone a fun challenge on the water. When we
weren’t fishing, we were eating great meals. Each patrol did a
spectacular job with their meals, and who could forget the
coveted fruit bowl? We had Dutch oven dinners once again
ranging from pizza to a meatloaf-like concoction. There were
little mistakes made over planning, but without them we would
never learn anything. Otherwise, the trip was a big success for
our first outing since summer (and COVID-19…) and has set
the bar high for our next trip to Seph Mack.

Scoutmaster’s Minute
Scouts, what does it mean to be a brother! Have you thought very
much about the meaning of these three words! A Scout is a brother to every
other Scout. You're kind to him. You like him and share with him. Sometimes
we stick together like brothers. That helps. We like a brother so much that we
are willing to give up something for him. Well-those ideas sort of help us get
the picture. Some of us have brothers in our families. Others have friends with
whom we've lived and hiked and worked so much that they may seem closer
to us than our own brothers do. How would it be, fellows, if each one of us, on
our way home tonight, tried to answer the question, 'What can I do to be a
true brother to others!'
Chili Bowl
The Stewartsville Lion’s Club is holding a Chili Bowl on
October 18th at the Holiday Travel lot (where the
chicken BBQs are held). They are looking for three
scouts to sign up for service hours. Please see Mr.
Dzaack or Mrs. Corlazzoli to sign up. This will be the
last service hours opportunity with the Lion’s Club this
year so if you need service hours for rank
advancement don’t delay.
Kayak Build Continued… PAGE 3 September 2020

The Troop 284 kayak build is

nearing the end. After
another successful weekend
build at Mr. Minnick’s garage,
the majority of the troop is in
their final steps to having
their own floating kayak.
Hopefully they can be used
for the Seph Mack outing
since only a few scouts are
left needing to finish their
boats. As you can see, many
have put their own personal
touches on theirs. If you still
have to work on your kayak
please contact Mr. Corlazzoli
to make arrangements as
soon as possible.

2020 Court of Honor

On Sunday, September 27th

the troop celebrated all the
achievements the scouts
have made since
September of last year. In
addition to rank
advancements, numerous
merit badges were awarded
to almost every scout. A
special thanks goes out to
Mrs. Gass and Mrs.
Washowich for the planning
and hosting the festivities.
