Activity: Exploring more about Triangles

Objective: To establish the relation between the corresponding sides of equiangular

triangles
[Note: If corresponding angles of two triangles are equal, then they are equiangular
triangles]

Materials Required: Unruled sheet, geometry box, calculator

Procedure: Construct the triangles as per the given measures.

For Trial 1:
Triangle ABC, with ∠A = 50⁰, ∠B = 60⁰, and AB = 3cm.
Triangle PQR with ∠P = ∠A, ∠Q = ∠B and PQ = 6cm
Measure the sides using a ruler and record the readings in the given table:

ABC ∠A = 50⁰ ∠B = 60⁰ ∠C = 70⁰ AB = 3cm BC = 2.5cm AC = 2.8cm

PQR ∠P = 50⁰ ∠Q = 60⁰ ∠R = 70⁰ PQ = 6cm QR = 5cm PR = 5.6cm

ABC: PQR:

Observation 1:
The lengths of the corresponding sides of the two triangles are in the ratio 1:2.

For Trial 2:
Triangle DON, with ∠D=45⁰, ∠O= 30⁰, and DO=4.5cm.
Triangle MET with ∠M= ∠D, ∠E= ∠O and ME=1.5 cm
Measure the sides using a ruler and record the readings in the given table:

Name: Hemanth.B.V

DON ∠D = 45⁰ ∠O = 30⁰ ∠N = 105⁰ DO = 4.5cm ON = 3.3cm DN = 2.4cm

MET ∠M = 45⁰ ∠E = 30⁰ ∠T = 105⁰ ME = 1.5cm ET = 1.1cm MT = 0.8cm

DO/ME = 3/1 ON/ET = 3/1 DN/MT = 3/1

DON: MET:

Observation 2:
The lengths of the corresponding sides of the two triangles are in the ratio 3:1.

Conclusion:
If the two triangles are equiangular, then the ratio of the lengths of their corresponding
sides are equal.
