2. Opposite sides are congruent.

̅̅̅̅ ≅ CD
AB ̅̅̅̅
̅̅̅̅
BC ≅ AD̅̅̅̅

3. Opposite angles are congruent.

∠A ≅ ∠C
∠B ≅ ∠D

4. Consecutive angles are supplementary

m∠A + m∠B = 𝟏𝟖𝟎
m∠B + m∠C = 𝟏𝟖𝟎
m∠C + m∠D = 𝟏𝟖𝟎
m∠D + m∠A = 𝟏𝟖𝟎

5. Diagonals bisect each other.

̅̅̅̅ = EC

BE = DE

6. A diagonal separates a parallelogram

into two congruent triangles. ∆ABC ≅ ∆ CDA

∆BAD ≅ ∆DCB

Page 2 of 8
Illustrative example:

Given: ON = 5 NE= 10 OS= 7 ∠OPN=30° ∠ONE=100°

From the illustration above, the following statements are observed.
1. Opposite sides are parallel. ON II PE OP II NE
2. Opposite sides are congruent. ON ≅ PE OP ≅ NE
3. Opposite angles are congruent. ∠ONE ≅ ∠EPO ∠PON ≅ ∠NEP

4. Consecutive angles are 𝑚∠ONE +m ∠NEP=180

supplementary 𝑚∠NEP +m ∠EPO=180
𝑚∠EPO +m ∠PON=180
𝑚∠PON +m ∠ONE=180
5. Diagonals bisect each other. OS = SE NS = SP
6. A diagonal separates a parallelogram ∆ONE ≅ ∆ EPO ∆PEN ≅ ∆ NOP
into two congruent triangles.

Find the measure of the following using the figure above figure.
1. OP = 10 8. m ∠PON = 80
2. PE = 5 m ∠PON + m ∠ONE=180
3. SE = 7 180 -m ∠ONE=m∠PON
4. OE = 14 180 - 100 = 80
5. SN = 6 9. m∠PEN = 80
6. PN = 12 m∠PON ≅ m∠NEP
m∠PON= 80
7. m ∠NPE = 70 m∠NEP= 80
m ∠ONE = m ∠OPE 10. Perimeter of OPEN = 30
m ∠OPE – m ∠OPN = m ∠NPE Perimeter= OP + PE+EN+NO
100 – 30 = 70 = 10 + 5+10+5
Perimeter = 30

2. Find the value of x in ̅̅̅̅ and CE

CAKE. Then find the KE ̅̅̅̅

Solution:
3x – 15 = 2x + 3 - opposite sides of a parallelogram

Page 3 of 8
are congruent.
3x – 2x – 15 = 2x – 2x + 3 - subtract 2x to both sides of the equation
x - 15 = 3
x – 15 + 15 = 3 + 15 -add 15 to to both sides of the equation
x = 18

̅̅̅̅
Solve for AK
3x – 15 - Substitute x with 18
3 (18) – 15 = 54 – 15 = 39

Solve for ̅̅̅̅

CE, AK ≅ ̅̅̅̅
since ̅̅̅̅ CE so ̅̅̅̅
CE =
39
3. Find the value of Y in EFGH. Then
find m ∠E, m ∠G, m ∠F and m ∠H

Solution:
6y + 4 = 3y + 37 - opposite angles of a are congruent.
6y – 3y+ 4 = 3y – 3y + 37 - subtract 3y to both sides of the equation
3y + 4 – 4 = 37 - 4 - subtract 4 to both sides of the equation
3𝑦 33
= - divide 3 to both sides of the equation
3 3

y = 11
Solve for the measure of:
a. m ∠G = 3y +37 = 3(11) + 37 = 70 -substitute y for 11
b. m ∠E = 6y + 4 = 6(11) + 4 = 70
Solving for the measure of :
c. 𝑚∠F since ∠F and ∠E are supplementary then
m ∠F + m ∠G = 180
m ∠F + 70 = 180
m ∠F + 70 - 70 = 180 – 70 - Subtract 70 from each side
m ∠F = 110
d. m ∠H = 110 since ∠H and ∠F are consecutive sides and are supplementary.

4. Solve for x and y in CUTE. Find; a). ̅̅̅̅̅ ̅̅̅̅, c.) ̅̅̅̅̅
CO, b.) OT UO and d.) ̅̅̅̅̅
OE

Page 4 of 8
Solution:
3y – 7 = 2x Equation 1
y=x+1 Equation 2
- the diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other
- use systems of linear equations by substitution
3(x+1) – 7 = 2x - Substitute x + 1 for y in equation 1 then distribute 3
3x + 3 – 7= 2x - simplify
3x – 4 = 2x
3x – 4 + 4 = 2x + 4 - add 4 to each side
3x = 2x + 4
3x – 2x = 2x – 2x+ 4 - subtract 2x from each side
x=4
3y – 7 = 2x - Substitute 4 for x in equation 1 or 2
3y – 7 = 2(4)
3y – 7 = 8
3y – 7 + 7 = 8 + 7 - add 7 to both sides of the equation
3y = 15
3𝑦 15
= - divide both sides by 3
3 3
y=5

̅̅̅̅̅, OT
Solve for CO ̅̅̅̅, UO
̅̅̅̅̅ and OE
̅̅̅̅̅. Use x = 4 and y= 5

̅̅̅̅̅ = 3y – 7 = 3(5) – 7 = 15 – 7 = 8
a. CO
̅̅̅̅ = 2x
b. OT = 2(4) =8
̅̅̅̅̅ = x + 1
c. UO = 4+1 =5

d. ̅̅̅̅̅
OE = y =5
